~ParentSquare Update For Our Parents~

ParentsSquare is Excel Academy's main form of communication with families. We appreciate you using it to stay connected, so we can continue to provide your students with the highest level of education and opportunities.  We understand the level of post notifications can seem a bit overwhelming at times, as we have so many wonderful opportunities to offer. We hear you and want to offer a couple of solutions to help reduce the notifications you receive.

If you wish to only receive one notification per day, with the posts from that day, please set your notification preference to DIGEST. Here is the link to set your preferences. https://parentsquare.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203983189-For-Admins-Too-many-posts-Set-your-Email-Text-and-App-notifications-to-daily-Digest

Please know that we are working as a team to make sure you are only receiving posts and reminders that pertain to your students' grade levels and any upcoming events you have registered to attend virtually (i.e. field trips, CCP events). By creating target groups, we will be able to deliver to specific groups and grade levels. We will do our best to scale back reminder messages by sending posts with information on upcoming events once and then a reminder the day before/day of the event. This will cut down the number of posts and notifications you receive. Please mark your calendars in advance for upcoming events and pertinent information and details you read about through ParentSquare and in the monthly newsletter.

Thank you for supporting your ToR and our Excel Academy staff as we work to efficiently utilize this platform to keep you informed of all the amazing events that we work hard to provide for your students. Please refer to your ToR's ParentSquare dashboard for updates as well. Any questions? Please reach out to your ToR or to Kastin at kastind@excelacademy.education.

*Families may purchase ANYTIME.  For more information, see the Q & A doc.

Remember to sign into your field trip account
on the school's
website to register.

Summative ELPAC Assessments

Having English Learners take the Summative ELPAC practice tests is highly recommended. Practice tests can be found on Excel Academy’s website under Parent Tools and Assessment Resources.

English Learners (EL)

Please encourage your students to complete the required English Language Development (ELD) Curriculum daily.

If you have any questions about ELD Curriculum, please contact your ToR or Excel Academy’s Title 1 Coordinator, Tamara Murphy at tmurphy@excelacademy.education. i-Ready - Progress Monitoring and Personalized Lessons

You should have received your student’s score report from your ToR. Any questions related to your student’s score report and personalized learning lessons can be directed to your ToR. Students performing in eighth grade or below in reading and math will be provided with personalized learning lessons that are specifically geared to each individual student's strengths and learning gaps. This is a valuable resource tool and one that is highly encouraged. Students should aim to spend 45 minutes completing lessons in both reading and math each week. Strive for 45 in each subject! Students who work on their lessons throughout each learning period will earn a special certificate from their ToRs and have the opportunity to be featured in Excel Academy's monthly newsletter. We can't wait to honor our students for their hard work and dedication! (Students will use the same username and password to access their lessons as they did to access the diagnostic assessments.)

Curriculum Associates has created grade level Printable At Home Learning Activity Packs with teacher guides and answer keys. These packets may act as a useful resource tool for parents and students as they are tied to grade level content and i-Ready lessons. Feel free to click the link below and peruse the free materials that are offered to parents and students.

Virtual Food Drive Recap:
Thank you to everyone who donated to our Virtual Food Drive in November through Feeding America. There are currently more than 54 million people in America facing hunger. For every $1 that was donated, Feeding America will supply 10 meals! It takes a little to make a big difference, and with your help, we were able to blow past our goal of $1,000 and donated over 10,000 meals!

1.) KIDS FOR PEACE

How Many Volunteers needed: Unlimited

Minimum Age: 10

What: Linked By Love

Organization: Kids For Peace

Date: Thursday, November 19, 2020, to Tuesday, December 29, 2020

Time: Any time

Description of Event: Volunteers are needed to make links of recycled/reused paper each with a message of love & hope for the world. The goal is to set a new Guinness World Record by creating a 110+ mile inspirational paper-chain. You can get as creative as you’d like as you share messages of LOVE and HOPE for the world, however, avoid gluing 3-dimensional objects that may create waste/litter when assembled. Use markers, paint, crayons, sharpies, pencils, or pens.

Special Instructions:

The weight of the paper should be thin enough to easily mail/bend and thick enough to create a sturdy link in the paper-chain. Suggested materials: cereal/food boxes, craft paper scraps, brown paper shopping bags, large mailing envelopes. Each strip must be between 11 inches – 18 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. You may make as many links as you’d like. There is no limit per person! Mail Love Links to: Kids for Peace, 1302 Pine Avenue, Carlsbad, CA 92008. Include your return address so they can track where all the links come from. You may fold the links in half if needed to fit in your envelope. DO NOT turn your links into a chain – they will assemble the chain once the “social distancing” mandate is lifted. There is no form necessary to accompany the links. If you’d like to help support Kids for Peace, you can slip in a dollar bill with your links. Donations are not required to participate but are appreciated to help support their programs.
