Successful Model UN last Saturday

Another successful High School Model UN session was held this past Saturday, again facilitated via ZOOM. All 8 resolutions submitted were discussed in separate committees with lively and interesting Speakers Lists.

Since many students have expressed interest in another Model UN opportunity during this school year, Civitas has already scheduled one for Saturday, February 20, 2021. The news of a vaccine is certainly encouraging, but, alas, it’s not looking promising for one to be widely distributed by February, so we will be virtual again. The signup is already set to go, so sign up now! Click here to access it. The plan is for students to represent the same countries as the fall sessions. However, we hope to have new resolutions submitted.

If you attended Saturday’s session and did not get a chance to complete the evaluation click here to access it.

We would love to see more delegate selfies from participants in the November 21 or the December 5 session! You can send them to info@civitas-stl.com.

Community Activist and State Rep. Rasheen Aldridge to Speak with Civitas students on Saturday, Dec. 12

(video below)
Politics can come and go, but the individuals who make public service an honor and important to all of us are fixtures on our radar. Rasheen Aldridge has been interested in politics since he was in high school, and since then he has been a community activist and vocal speaker for the rights of those who are underserved. For the past six years, he has been a regular insight-giver to Civitas students.

His resume includes being a member of the Ferguson Commission, meeting with President Barack Obama, and now serving in the Missouri General Assembly.

He is conversant on many topics, including the very strained relations between certain police departments and individual officers with minority citizens.

He will be our guest on Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon.

Impact of Local Farming on Us and Climate Change

On Saturday, January 23, Civitas' guest presenter will be Melissa Vatterott of the Missouri Coalition for the Environment. She is an attorney who specializes in federal and state regulations designed to protect the environment, farm animals, and human consumers. As we move towards planting season, there is a great deal that we can learn about the connection between modern farming and climate change.
