Friday 4th December

So it's thankfully Tier 2 now - and to celebrate Leytonstone will be alight tomorrow to fire up some festive spirit. We talk you through what's happening over the next two weekends, as well as run through three bars that are managing to reopen in E11, despite Covid restrictions. And as it's Small Business Saturday tomorrow it goes without saying that you'll all be supporting your local shops this Xmas.
1. Light up, light up

Leytonstone Light Up is the work of awesome local artists Greenaway and Greenaway, whose impressive CV includes installations for the V & A, as well as the 2019 Waltham Forest Borough Of Culture launch. This month they've been commissioned to create projections and light installations right in the heart of E11. And it starts tomorrow: don't miss the deer, above. Find out more here.

2. Woop! E11's best bars are now open too

So it's nice that everywhere is more or less back in action now, isn't it? And while we're thrilled most restaurants and gastropubs are all up and running, it's also great to see that a trio of E11's best (and formerly food-less) bars have revamped their offer to fit the current law. Find out more about what you can eat to soak up the booze at Filly Brook, pictured, and two more equally good local hangoutshere.
3. And while we're at it...

Don't forget to return to Leyton's Masala India, which was closed all lockdown - even for delivery. Happily it's now back, back, back. With its BYO policy, warming tiffins and the rather magical heated garden, it's also super easy socialise with those outside your household. Last month we chatted to owners Shaheen and Rumi to discover more about their incredible journey, as well as learning their 5 top tips on the best dishes to order here.
4. Choose Love returns

The folks behind pioneering grassroots charity Help Refugees are back again with the nifty way for Londoners to donate to refugees and displaced people around the world. Once again the Choose Love store is based this year on Carnaby Street and dotted with products from emergency blankets to school bags, medical equipment to sturdy shoes. New for 2020 are the COVID-19 Support Pack and Support For Unaccompanied Children. Read more about it in our feature here.

5. The best new plant-based restaurant in East London?

Everyone likes an occasional Columbia Road mooch. And some of us are rather partial to a spot of tapas at Morito or a glass of vino at Sager & Wilde next door. Well, now there's a new kid on that particular block. Site London opened opposite just before lockdown and serves next-level vegan dishes with zero fuss (and an amazing cocktaill and vegan wine list too). Find out what we enjoyed here

We need your help!

Leyonstoner's future is still far from certain as we approach 2021. We know it's undignified to ask, but if you enjoy this Weekly - or are featured in it - we implore you, in the spirit of the festive season to donate to our DonorBox here. Many thanks.
