KRESS FOUNDATION GRANT FOR ICONOGRAPHIC DATABASE

The Institute is pleased to announce that the Kress Foundation has awarded $30,000 to pay towards the upgrade of the internet resource of the Photographic Collection, the Warburg Institute Iconographic Database.

We are delighted to have launched a number of scholarships for PhD applicants:
Warburg Institute Scholarships
JB Trapp Scholarship
The JB Trapp Scholarship is open to international students who have been offered a place on the Institute’s MPhil/PhD Programme. It will cover international fees and provide an annual £15,000 maintenance payment for a maximum of three years.
Rubinstein Scholarship
The Rubinstein Scholarship is open to home students who have been offered a place on the Institute’s MPhil/PhD Programme. It will cover home fees and provide an annual £15,000 maintenance payment for a maximum of three years.
External Scholarships
The London Arts and Humanities Partnership (LAHP) award
The London Arts and Humanities Partnership has up to 90 cross-institutional studentships per year available for postgraduate research students studying arts and humanities disciplines.To be eligible to apply for the LAHP award you must ordinarily be resident in the UK or the European Union.

ABY WARBURG'S BILDERATLAS MNEMOSYNE VIRTUAL EXHIBITION

In case you missed the news, we have launched a complete virtual tour of the two landmark exhibitions: Aby Warburg: Bilderatlas Mnemosyne - the Original, at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) curated by Roberto Ohrt and Axel Heil in collaboration with the Warburg Institute; and Between Cosmos and Pathos: Berlin Works from Aby Warburg's Mnemosyne Atlas at the Gemäldegalerie.

Before the current Warburg Institute building was built in the late 1950s a strip of Georgian houses used to occupy the land. The surrounding area underwent a transformation during this time, as the university grew and occupied an area of land that had previously been residential.
Historian Mark Amies, who also works as the Warburg Library’s Scanner Operator, shares with us his knowledge of the history of the area in this blog post.
