Compressor Station update
Many of you already know the extremely disappointing news that the compressor station resumed operation on December 4. Enbridge, the Canadian fossil fuel company that owns the compressor station, will be doing "intermittent releases" (blow downs) of toxic gas beginning on Friday December 4 and going through December 11 from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. For more info on the continued fight against this terrible project please visit www.nocompressor.com
This fight is not over! Read all about the twin elves Kilnbrick and Klinker and their fight to protect the park around the compressor! And join FRRACS on December 20th at 3:00 PM for a holiday service of dedication for a holiday themed art installation against the compressor.
If all of this is concerning to you, here are some items to contact Braintree Town Hall about:
- There is not yet a functioning Air Quality Monitor station in Weymouth. And there really should be one in Braintree as well. Otherwise how is anyone supposed to know how much pollution we are getting as a result of this terrible project?
- Braintree is still appealing the permitting of this project – but we can and should do more to protect our residents and those of our neighboring Fore River Towns.
- And what about the evacuation plan? Nothing has been released yet.
The Town of Braintree recently set up an alert system for emergency events related to the compressor station (its already has two accidental leaks). Click here to sign up for these alerts: https://www.braintreema.gov/791/Braintree-Alerts

Say 'YES' to MBTA Bus Electrification
Did you know the former Quincy Adams Lowes store will soon be the South Shore’s main MBTA bus garage? If you’re like us you probably think that there should be some future proofing in those plans right? Here are some ideas that we are in favor of:
- set the new garage up for bus electrification
- have as many electric buses as possible on day one (2025) of the new garage (Quincy/Braintree buses are the oldest and dirtiest, btw)
- commit to full bus electrification by 2035
There will be a public meeting on December 16th about the garage plans where you can make your support for bus electrification known!
