Sakyadhitaoz Meditation Group with Ayya Jitindriya. Sunday October 11th 5pm AEDT

Is compassion the most important human quality? Is it a necessity in order for the human species to survive? How can we develop the qualities of compassion and empathy?

Joan Halifax is a Zen Buddhist teacher, anthropologist and a social activist who has worked on environmental, human rights, and justice issues since the sixties. She is Abbot of the Upaya Monastery in Santa Fe, a Buddhist study centre committed to social engagement. She has worked with inmates on death row and served the dying for many decades. She is an author, her most recent book is
Standing at the edge : finding freedom where fear and courage meet’.

She was a guest speaker at the 2019  Sakyadhita International Conference in the Blue Mountains, where she spoke on ‘Wise Hope in Social Engagement’.
