Dear <<First Name>>

This is our last email newsletter of 2020, the year that stopped the world!

There's no denying that this has been a hard year for many of us and everyone is eager to return to their usual way of living. Out of the bad comes good and this was the case when our community pulled together to help each other with endless acts of kindness. Volunteers helped with shopping and more, children decorated their windows with rainbows, we all clapped for key workers and were inspired as we watched Captain Sir Tom Moore walk 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday to raise funds for the NHS. These are just a few of the many selfless acts people did to help others - we thank them all.

West Sussex remains in Tier 2 following the Government's review this week but it is still very important that everyone remains vigilant and continues to practice social distancing measures and stays safe.

From the 23 to 27 December households can form a Christmas bubble, this means you can mix with people from no more than 3 other households. The advice is that you think very carefully about the risks of meeting up with others and only do so if you feel you absolutely need to. For many, this will mean that it isn’t possible to celebrate Christmas in the way you normally would. Read full guidance.

The Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner would appreciate it if you could complete a very short survey asking people’s views on whether they would be prepared to pay a small amount more for policing in Sussex from next April.

We invite you to watch a special Christmas message from our Town Mayor, Councillor David Chace being shown on his Facebook page on Christmas Eve.

We take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!

Christmas waste

Christmas cards

Christmas cards can be recycled by placing them in your recycling bin at home.

Alternatively, why not try reusing your cards before recycling them?

Here are some ideas to get you started.

  • When it comes to reusing greeting cards, one of the simplest things to do is to cut the front picture off the old greeting card and use it as a postcard or to make a new greeting card.
  • Make tiny gift boxes from them.
  • If there is nothing written on the inside of the front, reuse it as a thank you note and send as a postcard.
  • Make bookmarks from them.
  • Storage box - use decoupage techniques to create a fun box.
  • Gift tags – cut the design from the front of the card as use as gift tags.

Christmas trees

Real Christmas trees can be taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Site (HWRS) for recycling.

Simply place them in the container for green waste, and they will be composted into soil conditioner locally.

Please remove any Christmas decorations before recycling your Christmas tree!

Christmas wrapping paper

You can recycle your wrapping paper by placing it in your recycling bin at home.

Please remove bows, ribbons and excess sellotape before putting the wrapping paper in your recycling bin at home.

Foil and metallic wrapping paper that has a plastic feel to it cannot be recycled due to the plastic coating on it.

Waste Collections during Festive Period

Those with a Friday collection will have their waste collected the following day so Christmas Day collections will be on 26 December and New Year's Day on 2 January. The last Green Waste collection is on Friday 18 December and resumes on Monday 4 January. For more information visit Arun District Council's website.
