PTA Reading with Bulldogs

Due to social distancing requirements, our annual in-person "Reading with Santa" event won’t be possible. The Heuvelton PTA still would like to provide some type of holiday event for our school-aged children to enjoy this coming holiday season. An online event has been approved by the administration in lieu of our usual "Reading with Santa."

12 or 24 pre-recorded readings will be posted each night before Christmas and uploaded at 6:30 pm to the Heuvelton PTA page and the school website. The media links will be public so you will be able to share on other social media platforms.

Tutoring

Learning has been turned on its head during the pandemic, both in Heuvelton and at schools across the globe.  While online learning works well for some students, many students struggle.  Tutoring is available for small groups and is available at no cost.  Students also have different learning styles, so instruction using a variety of methods is helpful.  If your child is struggling, why not try learning from someone else?

Wave Learning Festival is a free educational platform that provides virtual tutoring to students in grades 6-12 in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

They provide free drop-in virtual tutoring every day of the week, in groups of 1-5 students.  Learn more about this tutoring through their website at https://www.wavelf.org/tutoring.  Tutoring is available in common core subjects like English, math, the sciences, and a variety of languages.

HTA Backpack Program

HTA (Heuvelton Teacher Association) runs a Backpack Program. This Backpack Program provides students with a backpack full of food that is sent home every Friday to ensure that students have enough food for the weekend. Elk's Lodge donated 700$ to the Backpack Program at Heuvelton Central School. In the photo is Angela McRoberts, who is in charge of the Backpack Program & Val Testani, Elk member. Thank you Elk's Lodge for helping us at Heuvelton Central School!

Calming Room

Our students have been enjoying the Calming Room. Jayce Lawrence is using the exercise ball, Baylee Elliott is on the Calming Room google classroom, and Layne Ritchie is eating his lunch in a quiet setting.

Heuvelton Macy's Parade

Students in Mrs. Fennesy's and Mrs. Cushing's class would like to wish the Heuvelton community a Happy Thanksgiving! Please enjoy our very own Heuvelton Macy's Parade. Students worked hard to create a problem story from their balloons perspective. They then brought their idea to life and were able to build their creation. They worked seamlessly as a team and listened to each other's ideas. After their creation was built, they brought their balloon to life using an app called Chatterpix. The app made their balloon talk and tell the story they wrote. Finally, we created our very own Heuvelton Macy's Day parade. We truly hope you enjoy it and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Candy Shop Classroom

Gum drops, lollipops, and fun galore... what a sweet room transformation Mrs. Cushing had in store! This week Mrs. Cushing's students became candy shop owners and had a really sweet time! They "visited" different candy shops around the room and used teamwork to solve rounding problems at each shop. After visiting each shop, they earned a smelly sticker and got to estimate how many candies were in a jar. At the end of the room transformation, the students won whichever candy they were closest to. We had a "beary" good time.
