Some Farmers Markets Close; Others Plow On

The Felton and Scotts Valley Farmers Markets are closed until May, but the ones in Live Oak, Cabrillo, Downtown and Westside are open year round with special winter crops.

“When you’re missing the tomato, the peach and the padron pepper, let yourself fall in love with the kiwi, the apple, the chicory,” says Nicole Zahm, Education Coordinator for Santa Cruz Community Farmers Markets. “The colder months bring sweeter carrots – beets and greens are sweeter and more vibrant too. Many culinary herbs thrive in the winter, kept safe from pests by the coastal winds and cool air.”

Some of the edible highlights include:

Home Away – fresh pastas, sauces, olives, sausages, charcuterie, steaks, lard, pate and more.

Full Steam Dumplings – gyoza, dumplings, pancakes, bun, sauces and ramen.

Mattia Pizza – vegetarian and meat pizzas.

Tis the Season to Scam
The scammers know we are all stuck at home and getting phone calls from far off friends. It’s amazing how many people don’t even pick up anymore unless they recognize the phone number. But that isn’t stopping the scammers. Now, they are back to using email to dupe the unsuspecting. What can we do to stop it? Computer expert Luigi Oppido has some important answers.

Holiday Blahs

I normally love the holidays but can’t get excited this year because so many of our usual traditions will be changed or impossible to do. My kids are only interested in how many presents they’ll get, which makes me even less interested in celebrating. I’m usually the “cheerleader” that gets everyone else into the holiday mood, but I’m just not feeling it this year. I’m worried that my sour attitude will rub off on the rest of my family and make the holidays unbearable for everyone. What can I do to get out of this slump?

Caterina

Yeah, Caterina, we’re feeling it too.
