TeachOne for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
After the holidays, it is time to plan for youth learning and action around Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This national day of service, January 18, 2021, offers an opportunity to listen and learn from history and exercise our own power to give.
Dr. King modeled acts of philanthropy in the form of advocacy, which means "using words to persuade and inform others of your cause."
For conversations and service leading up to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2021, we provide a lesson plan to inspire poster-making with Dr. King's words, literature guides for discussion of good books, and links to resources for a National Day of Racial Healing, January 19, 2021.

Participate in National Day of Racial Healing
On January 19, people across the country are coming together in conversations on National Day of Racial Healing. We invite you to participate by having guided conversations with the youth in your care.
As a nation, we are now more aware of the need for action. This National Day of Racial Healing is designed to spark conversations and change. Bring racial healing to your own classroom and community with these ideas you can download and print.

This Year's Stories of Youth Action
Over the past year, you told us stories of young people and their service and empowerment. Your stories, big and small, inspire others. Throughout the pandemic, youth have hosted virtual book clubs and written letters of encouragement to senior citizens. Kids have collected data on water quality and made homes for bees. They have chalked notes on sidewalks, painted messages on stones, and organized neighborhood scavenger hunts. Write to us to tell your stories of youth action and how they made someone smile.

Learning to Give Partners with 4-H
Michigan 4-H is providing philanthropy education virtually in partnership with Learning to Give to continue to support community needs and youth development.
Videos and lessons are in development for a year-long calendar of opportunities to engage with communities. The structure supports clubs and groups interested in a service-learning philosophy. This work has included philanthropy education and connecting skills and knowledge to community needs. As the year progresses, each club will take action and reflect on the experience. At the conclusion of the project, groups will share their impact.
