Now, back to The Forward:
Book: Transcendent Kingdom
Written by Yaa Gyasi, Transcendent Kingdom is a beautiful story about a Ghanian family in rural Alabama. It spans many decades and delves into issues like mother-daughter relationships, religion, nationalism and addiction. This is a very compelling novel that you'll want to read in one sitting, and then read again!
Book: Miracle on Tenth Street and Other Stories
We loved the cozy, festive stories in Madeleine L'Engle's Miracle on Tenth Street and Other Stories. It's even better if you were already a fan of her Austin family stories.
List: The 10 Best Books of 2020
If you're looking to get a head start on your 2021 TBR list, check out this list from the editors of The Times Book Review. Bonus points if you purchase from a local or independent bookstore!
Playlist: The Beethoven Effect
Who better than Beethoven to engage with our tumultuous emotions as we leave this insane year behind and face the New Year with courage and hope? Listen to this curated playlist by composer Max Richter to celebrate Beethoven's 250th birthday. We're in awe of the original cover art by David Hockney.
Song: A Beautiful Spring Day
It's a beautiful spring day...in December? If you're tired of holiday jingles, this track from Disney's classic 101 Dalmatians will warm your heart, instead of annoying your ears. No matter the time of year, this song always hits the spot (pun intended!).

Playlist: Spotify Wrapped
Remember that song you listened to when you would commute to the office? Or your favorite gym tune? Yeah, us either. But, if you're looking to take a walk down memory lane, check out Spotify Wrapped to relive your year in music, or see how the world listened.
Hope is finally on the horizon! Vaccinations are beginning in the United States, but how long will it be before you have access to the vaccine yourself? The New York Times' "Find Your Place in the Vaccine Line" interactive quiz tells you where you fall in line.
We're reflecting on the political rollercoaster ride the country took this past year. Keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle, though - we're still moving! Organizations are working to ensure everyone in the state has access to safe and secure voting measures. Check out the amazing work Fair Fight did for the general election in 2020 and consider making a donation for the year ahead.
"Pessimists sound like they're trying to help you. Optimists sound like they're trying to sell you something." - Enlightenment Now author Steven Pinker, paraphrasing financial writer Morgan Housel, on societal bias toward pessimism. Bad news dominates the news. It doesn't mean there isn't good news out there. We'll keep this in mind as we focus on solutions in our work and lives.
