This time last year we were taking final exams and graduating from language school in Costa Rica. And here we are this week at two months of living in the northwoods of Wisconsin and serving at Fort Wilderness! We are grateful for the provision, direction and grace God has shown us through the big and unexpected transitions in the last year.

Your continued support of our family and ministry through the transition from G2G Missions to Fort Wilderness is one of the great evidences of God's grace and provision, and confirmation of where the Lord has led us. Thank you so much for changing your giving so quickly, enabling our family to move up here by our goal start time of October. There are many praiseworthy things about our first two months here:
  • Provision of a great rental house near camp
  • Continued good health despite COVID going around at camp and in the area
  • Starting our jobs during camp's "slow season" so we have time to onboard well before winter retreat season and summer camps
  • Opportunities to learn, grow and serve alongside great staff at Fort
  • Seeing the benefits of consistency and stability in our life, especially for Evie and Kohen
  • Finding a new church home
While the blessings of life and ministry here are so evident, we still find ourselves grieving the loss of our anticipated return to Nicaragua. We miss so much of life, community and ministry there. In that, we are finding deeper levels of trusting the Lord and surrendering our plans and desires to Him. Spanish in our home, continued relationships with our Central American friends, and praying for Nicaragua remain part of our family rhythms. We serve a sovereign, trustworthy and faithful God that uses all things and all places for His kingdom and for our good - we cling to that!

At Fort, November and December are the only months of the year without campers which makes for a great time to plan, collaborate and prepare for the new year of ministry ahead. The winter weekends are full of family getaways (there is room Dec. 31st-Jan. 3rd if you want to spend New Years playing in the snow!) and youth retreats. Please pray for the Lord to use these weekends to impact lives for eternity and for camp to adapt as necessary to COVID modifications. Carrie is working as the Staff and Volunteer Coordinator at camp three days a week and home with the kids the other two days. A recent highlight for her has been starting to hire summer staff for this-coming summer. Kurtis works at camp full time balancing his role as Student Ministries Director and Retail Operations Manager. A recent highlight for him was upgrading the espresso machine in the coffee shop!

We are eager to pray for you so please let us know if there are specific ways we can be praying!

Love in Christ,

Our new home and yard full of pine trees, wild turkey, and deer

We made it up for the last week of Fall before it started snowing

Though resistant at first, the kids are learning to "suit up" and enjoy the snow

On Our Nightstand

Kurtis: We both read this great but short book in preparation for leading teams here at Fort Wilderness. What we didn't expect to learn in reading it was how applicable the contents were to our friendships, marriage, and even our parenting. The Way of The Shepherd is a great read for anyone interested in caring well for the people around them, and especially for those who may be part of a team or have people under their care in the workplace.
Carrie: I started reading this at the suggestion of a friend. It has offered tremendous perspective on my own life - and how my difficulties pale in comparison - as I read about faithful women who sacrificed everything throughout history to remain faithful to Christ, serve His people, and grow His kingdom. The individual stories are a few pages each so it is easy to come in and out of it if you're like me and have trouble staying awake reading at night :)

Write, call, or send a Marco Polo! We'd love to know how each of you are doing and what your favorite Christmas traditions are!

We're so grateful for your sustaining support as we've transitioned Fort Wilderness.
