There's No Place Like Home For the Holidays

5th Anniversary Holiday Art Show & Sale
As we contemplate the imminent new lockdowns, we reflect on what it means to be at home this holiday.

Hayes Valley Art Works is intended as a creative home for our community, a neighborhood backyard, a home for native plants and flowers in the garden, for community art and sculpture garden, for murals, and for what emerges when community comes together.

Our newsletter has been quiet lately but we have been busy.  We have a Holiday Art Show hung in the container gallery... just in time for more restrictions!  We were hoping to have a more formal announcement with some lead time, but with the new Purple tier and upcoming new restrictions, we decided to send this out tonight!  Art will be up in time for tomorrow, Saturday December 5 in the container gallery, and in the garden.

Our 5th Anniversary Holiday Art Show is now scheduled to run December 5, 2020  - January 6, 2021, although we will likely extend these dates due to the new restrictions.

Current hours are Saturdays, 12-4 for gallery viewing. Additional artwork can be viewed inside the garden along the fence.Visitors are welcome with masks, to enjoy some of the art, buy some and take it home with you to enjoy as we head into our homes for the holidays.

We'll also be joined by The Manimal Project - just for the afternoon of Dec 5th.

Additionally, we hope to be part of a fully online "Holiday Live" event coming soon,   barring any complications from the latest government restrictions.
For more information or to participate as an artist, performer, maker or featured merchant, please  email hayesvalleyblockparty@gmail.com or hvawsf@gmail.com.

We hope we can keep our Saturday hours through December, but will know more next week as we learn details about the latest restrictions.

We'll be announcing our ONLINE GALLERY soon, and the Holiday Show artwork will be fully viewable online when that is launched.  Stay tuned!

Best wishes and stay safe for the Holidays....

HVAW at Shared Streets

We've taken the Art Cart to the streets!  Every Sunday starting in early October, we've taken the Art Cart to Hayes Street, and we've had wonderful times making socially distanced art with visitors and getting to know our neighbors.  Our youngest community artists have shared amazing chalk drawings!

Recent guest artists at the Art Cart activation include local burlesque star Redbone, and "The Gate Guy" Todd Young.

We suspended this activation when we headed into the Purple Tier last week, but look forward to doing more activations next year!

Murals
You've seen amazing murals that artists have painted on boarded up storefronts.  These murals emerged through the amazing efforts of artists, business owners, neighbors, the great work done by Paint the Void fundraising and connecting artists, and our HVAW site managers partnering with Paint the Void to connect artists to vacant spots needing murals, as well as our partnerships with HVNA  the Lower Haight Neighbors and ArtTrailSF

We are delighted to have two murals by artist Todd Kurnat now installed in our Parcel S garden!  Please come by - you can see the mural that was formerly at Minimal on the fence from outside, and come inside to see the amazing mural on the back!

We hope to have two murals by Hayes Valley's prolific muralist and artist Nicole Hayden very soon!  More details to follow.

THE CLARK REPORT
IN OTHER MEWS....

CLARK HERE.
So, I did my best to keep my Human from sending out so many of these newsletters.  I mean, honestly, how many columns does a cat have to type out? I don't have opposable thumbs so this whole operation is really kind of annoying.  Anyway. The Shut Down has been pretty good for me.  Human available for my needs almost all the time.  I'm sorry about the human pan-them-it and stuff but you know, this hasn't been all bad for us cats and dogs - we got adopted at record speeds.  Anyway. I might be at this art thing.  So you should come, and see me, sometime.....

 Come for the cheese.
 Stay for the art.
 Fall for the cat.
 LOVE,
 CLARK
