Dear Living Faith Uniting Church Family and Friends
"From the rising of the sun to its setting; the name of the Lord is to be praised." Psalm 113:3
This majestic sunset occurred in Brisbane one evening. The spray of colours across the clouds displays God's handiwork and array of creation. Each day He paints a picture in the heavens for us to enjoy. Just as this photo signifies the end of a day, so we are nearing the end of a year. I keep hearing on the media that it is a year that everyone wants to forget. However, for the Christian, it has been a year that has provided time and space for deep reflection into what truly matters in life.
As we proceed toward the conclusion of 2020, it is good to ponder the experiences and lessons we have and are learning during the pandemic. It is also worthwhile offering deep gratitude to God for Queensland's almost clean run through this crisis. What responsibilities do we have as Christians living in a country with few cases, when many people around the world are dying in droves during these difficult times? As we consider these important matters, we are assured that God has not changed even though so much around us has changed.
Please note that I will be on annual leave from 29 December until 11 January inclusive. We have the lovely Rev Santina Waugh who will preach on Sunday 3 January; and we are blessed to have Garry Jennings return to preach on Sunday 11 January. Garry has spoken before at our church and is looking forward to being among you again. He is due to be ordained early in the new year.
I am excited to tell you that we are going to be working through a powerful series for Lent next year entitled, "Seven Significant Sentences." We will be exploring the final seven statements that Jesus made before His crucifixion and their impact on us today. The series will begin on Sunday 21 February and will lead us into Easter. Part of the experience will be the opportunity to join a small group and explore and discover together the treasures that God has for each of us individually during lent. Why not diarise these Sundays as a priority in your spiritual journey towards fresh new life?
Have a blessed week knowing that God continually enters our world in exciting and new ways!
