Sharing resources for teaching and learning of public relations, advertising, and organizational communication

A community of practice comprising 13 college professors and lecturers from different higher education institutes have joined forces to share the good practices of higher education in advertising and public relations. The goals of the community of practice are to enhance the quality of teaching and learning of the discipline. This goal is further elaborated into four aims:
1. sharing of good teaching and learning materials and practices;
2. enhancing industry-academia interaction;
3. sharing of experience in new pedagogy for teaching scholarship; and
4. promoting a culture for life-long learning.

As a result of all the efforts devoted in this community of practice, a website to share 12 teaching videos, and 29 assignment briefs for a variety of undergraduate courses in advertising, public relations, and organizational communication was developed after nearly a year’s exchange and discussion. The teaching videos interviewed professional leaders from various industries to share the latest trend of marketing communication, design thinking, and media convergence in the digital era. These assignments adopted the latest teaching pedagogies, including research-informed teaching pedagogy, course-based research projects, and blended learning. Educators are invited to use these teaching videos in the class or as additional materials.

All the assignment briefs can be downloaded freely and modified by the instructors of marketing communication and international business for their courses, provided proper citations are included. Instructors and academics of the communication discipline are encouraged to adopt the teaching videos and assignments as their teaching and learning materials. Comments and further contributions to this community of practice are most welcome as well.
