“WORKING TOGETHER TO BUILD D4”

Thank you District 4!

The D4 Zonta Foundation for Women would like to thank you for your contributions for the Every Member Every November Challenge.
District 4 raised over $4736.00 USD during the 30 day challenge. It is a testament to the commitment that all of you have as Zontians and the programs we can assist with particularity during these challenging times.
With the generosity of Zontians across the globe more than US$450,000 was raised to support the international service projects and every dollar donated will provide life-changing opportunities for women and girls around the world.

Kary Grant- Foundation Ambassador

November 24, 2020 was a cold clear night when Zontians from both sides of the International border between Canada and the USA came to witness the lights at Niagara Falls turn Orange in honor of Zonta’s 16 Days of Activism and our Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women and Girls campaign.
Due to Covid-19 our plans for celebration were limited by the need for social distance and wearing masks. I know many more would have attended but due to travel and weather restrictions we were a small but mighty group on the US side.
The Zonta Club of Niagara Falls, Canada held a Candlelight Vigil on their side of the Falls. Both sides waited for the lights to turn orange. On the American side at Terrapin Point, a small group of Zontians from the Niagara Falls US club,  Buffalo club and Hamburg-Orchard Park club waited for that 9pm Orange light to shine out with our Zonta Says No Banner. We brought flash lights and flashed them to the Zontians at Tablerock but don’t know if we were seen. It was freezing cold on both sides of the border but we celebrated our solidarity and passion for justice for Women and Girls.
Hopefully next year our celebration of the 16 Days of Activism and Zonta Says No will be bigger and stronger.

Message from the D4 Awards Chairs

Zonta International has posted the timeline and materials for the 2021 Young Women in Public Affairs award.
The application form for the YWPA award has been posted onto the ZI website.  In addition, there is a document called “YWPA Statistics and Program Overview” as well as a poster that can be sent to various schools and candidates.  These materials can be found here.

Please note:  A completed application is one document in pdf format that includes the Cover Sheet for Clubs, the Application and the Supporting documentation.
Clubs should send their selected YWPA Candidate’s Application to awards@zontadistrict4.org by APRIL 1, 2021.

There are additional useful YWPA materials in the My Zonta section of the ZI website. These include:
·         Guidelines for Clubs and Districts/Regions
·         Selection criteria
·         Cover sheet for clubs
·         Award Certificate template
·         Pertinent Action Points - for District Chairs & Club Presidents

The link to access all these material is here.

We trust these materials will be useful to YWPA Chairs and Presidents.

Message from the D4 UN Chair

On December 12th, 2020, there will be a special event to mark the five-year anniversary of the adoption of the Paris Agreement on climate change. Co-hosted by the United Nations, the United Kingdom and France, and in partnership with Chile and Italy. The Climate Ambition Summit will bring together world leaders and non-state actors who will demonstrate new, enhanced ambition. The event, which will be virtual, will set the tone for our drive to increase climate action as we move toward the UN Climate Conference COP26.
