What happened at re:invent 2020 last week?

It's that time of the year when AWS announcements come thick and fast!

In the weeks leading to re:invent 2020 there were no fewer than 100 announcements, and Andy Jassy have dropped some huge announcements during his keynote.

To spare you the hassle and pain of going through all the announcement posts and figure out what they mean for you in practice, I have compiled a list of the top 22 recent announcements (related to serverless) and what they mean for you in practice.

Have a read of my re:Invent 2020 hot takes #1.

Aurora Serverless v2 was arguably the biggest announcement during Andy Jassy's keynote. And since then I've gotten quite a few questions about it, so I pull together a quick Q&A to address those common questions here.

All the sessions during week 1 are available to watch on-demand now. You can access them via the official reinvent portal here.

Here are my top picks for sessions to watch, in no particular order.

"Building technology standards at Amazon scale" by Marc Brooker
You can watch the session here, and here's my notes for the session.

"Monitoring production services at Amazon" by David Yanacek

"Automating continuous delivery pipelines at Amazon" by Clare Liguori

"Building event-driven applications with Amazon EventBridge" by Stephen Liedig

"AWS identity: Next-generation permission management" by Brigid Johnson

This year's reInvent is fully virtual and streamed around the world, and it lasts for 3 weeks! I'll be bringing you the most important announcements and my top picks for sessions to watch every week.

Until next time, ciao!
