PAWA

PRESIDENTS WRAP UP

I take this opportunity to wish each and every one of our members and supporters a safe and happy Christmas, and a new year that is kind to you and your families.

As we prepare for the AGM early next year, and hopefully head into a more normal year, I encourage everyone to liaise closely with your Zone delegates and State Council with feedback, ideas and inspiration. Sport benefits from connection and interaction between individuals, clubs, zones and peak bodies, and that interaction is imperative to grow our sport in challenging times. We have a number of initiatives working well, but there is always room for innovation and expansive thinking.

As we approach the end of an incredibly challenging year, I extend thanks to all those people across WA who contributed to our polocrosse season at club, zone, and PAWA level. We enjoyed minimal disruption to polocrosse compared to the rest of the country, and were the envy of those whose seasons were cut short.  Although numbers were down at carnivals, it was great to see the enthusiasm displayed, especially by our up and coming stars in the Junior E and subbies.

Pip Crook.

ANDREW KIKEROS SURVEY

    Polocrosse Participation and Economic Contribution

In October, every member of the Polocrosse Assosication of Western Australia received an email from Andrew Kikeros requesting that you complete the survey in the email.  The main focus of the survey is to give us a clear picture of the significant contribution polocrosse makes to the community (critically important as communities rebound from Covid)  as well as to provide feedback (in a general manner) to the PAA so that the association can support the States, Clubs and you in ensuring our sport continues to prosper for future generations.

Please take the time to complete this survey.  This email is not Spam

SELECTORS
As we head in to zone and club AGMS the PAWA asks you to consider the role of selector for the coming 2020 season.  A fulfilling role which is not as arduous as in previous years, each zone is asked to present nominees for the four divisions of Men, Women, Intermediate and Junior.

If you require more information regarding the role we have previous selectors willing to offer support and advice along with our Director of Selectors Nicole Waddingham.

These nominees will be required for the coming PAWA AGM in January 2021.

CLUB REQUIREMENTS FOR 2021
Member Protection Information Officers
PLEASE NOTE : Club affiliations for 2021 will not be accepted unless a designated MPIO has been nominated and trained for each club

Each club should have a nominated MPIO. Once online component is complete please email your certificate to eo@pawa.asn.au. This is soon going to be part of legislation in sport as they conclude the inquest in to child protection.

(MPIOs) play an important and positive role in providing a safe, fair and inclusive environment. An MPIO is a source of information about a person’s rights, responsibilities and options when managing an issue or complaint. They can also provide information and advice to sport administrators and complaint handlers regarding the Member Protection Policy of that sport.

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries invites members of the sport and recreation industry to register for the Member Protection Information Officer course. The course is specifically designed for people who wish to be a Member Protection Information Officer in their sport and recreation organisations and clubs. Please note priority will be given to representatives from State Sporting Associations.

The MPIO course comprises of two stages: an online prerequisite and then a face-to-face workshop. State sport and recreation associations and clubs are invited to nominate persons from within their organisation to attend.

Prior to attending the face-to-face workshop. The online component takes approximately 4 hours to complete and covers:
• The MPIO role
• Complaint resolution procedures
• Member protection and the law
• Child protection
• Harassment and discrimination
• Ethical and practical considerations.

For further course information, please visit Play by the Rules.
