Welcome to our Summer edition of Get Moving Greater Bendigo.
We hope you enjoy our last newsletter for 2020 and find some useful information to support you to stay active, healthy and connected over the summer period.
We would like to wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday break.
Get Moving is an initiative of the City of Greater Bendigo and a range of other Government agencies.

This summer, Greater Bendigo’s beautiful parks will come alive with a range of fantastic music, movies and other great free or low cost events.
Summer in the Parks is the perfect excuse to pack up your family or get a group of friends together and have some fun in our great outdoors.
Bike Bendigo are excited to partner with Golden Square Pool for a ride + swim.
The Community Rides are a Free activity and a perfect way to meet new people, have fun and get active. Come on your own, bring a friend or the grandkids, everyone is welcome. All rides return to Golden Square Pool and riders are welcome to stay for a free swim and icy poles for the kids.Upcoming date

Community rides are on the second Sunday of every month.
Shorter ride (12km) -START: GOLDEN SQUARE POOL 10am
This ride follows the Bendigo Creek Trail to the Play-o-saurus playground then returns to the pool. 12km total. Includes several road crossings.
Ride at your own pace.
Suitable for younger kids + newer riders.
Long ride (20km) - START: CHRISTMAS TREE (Rosalind Park Piazza 10am
We ride on-road to Golden Square, then take the Bendigo Creek Trail to Crusoe Reservoir, then back to the pool.
Moderate pace, suitable for older kids + adults.
Bendigo Tennis Centre - Seniors Social Tennis
Fancy a hit of tennis?
Every Monday morning Seniors Social Tennis is held at Bendigo Tennis Centre in Nolan Street near Lake Weeroona.
No need to have a partner, come along between 8.30am & 12pm and you will be placed in a team.

Fitness for Older Adults Program (FOAP)
The Fitness for Older Adults Program (FOAP) delivers strength training and physical activity groups for older adults both in Bendigo and surrounding regional towns. About FOAP
The groups are conducted by qualified fitness physiotherapists from the Community Allied Health Services team.
The purpose of the groups is to reduce the risk of falls, improve balance, general fitness levels and overall health and wellbeing.

What to expect
The Community Allied Health Services physiotherapists and instructors will work with you to understand your goals, strengths, abilities and needs.
How to access FOAP services
For people aged 65 years and over, (or 50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) referral is via: www.myagedcare.gov.au
BCHS offers a range of exercise services and programs including: strength training sessions (for adults 55+ years age), type two diabetes exercise groups, falls and balance exercise groups, walking groups and individual sessions with an Accredited Exercise Physiologist. Both our Bendigo Aquatic and recreation facilities are delighted to be back offering programs and services to keep you healthy and active. Visit Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre or Peter Krenz Leisure Centre over the summer to see what's on offer in the gym, pool or their group fitness programs suitable for older adults.

Bendigo Bushwalking and Outdoor Club
Bendigo Bushwalking and Outdoor Club offers a range of activities for anyone interested in exploring the great outdoors. Visitors are especially welcome to come along and have fun with a friendly group of individuals who love getting out and enjoying our wonderful country.
Challenge yourself, discover places you never knew existed in the company of fellow adventurers.
Bendigo Canoe Club caters for all age groups and abilities from recreational paddlers, right through to the more serious competitors.
Go along to the Club's next Saturday afternoon event at the clubhouse, located at Lake Weeroona Pavilion. This is a fun and social activity and a great way to meet other Club members. 2021 Let's Paddle

A fun activity to enjoy with the Grandkids or with a friend
Challenge friends and family to join you on a walk and see who can get Bingo first.
Participate in one of six walks across the Loddon Campaspe region. Spot points of interest listed in the booklet during your walk and once you’ve spotted three items in a vertical, horizontal or diagonal line, you’ve got Bingo!
Join Goldfields Library to develop the skills you need to explore what is on offer online. Book into one of our workshops to get to know your device, research your family history online and using online tools to make life easier. We can help to get you started.

The City of Greater Bendigo has established Community Group Reactivation Grants to support initiatives that encourage the reactivation of volunteers, members, community participation and opportunities to increase community connections and networks as part of the recovery from the pandemic.
The temporary grants are available until June 30, 2021 to incorporated not-for-profit groups and community organisations.
The City of Greater Bendigo had the pleasure of organising and supporting a series of outdoor concerts in December at four local aged care facilities to celebrate the end of what has been a very tough and challenging year for older residents during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Local entertainers 70+4 a four-piece Jazz Band and U3A six-piece Guitar Band were delighted to perform live again and bring joy to residents now that restrictions have eased and to celebrate the festive season.
With the help from Bendigo Venues & Events and partnership with Goldfields Library, The City of Greater have created a wonderful intergenerational festive story telling activity
