Keeping busy at home this Half Term

February half term is usually a real turning point for us at the Mumbler office, and I suspect for many of you too. After the craziness of Christmas, after the dreary first few weeks of January we start to focus on what's going on in February Half Term. But things have been a little different this time round! I think this is the first school holiday newsletter that isn't rammed packed with local events and places to go!

The message from the government is to stay home and only exercise locally. We are very lucky to live in a part of the world that is so beautiful. If they are local, please consider RHS Harlow Carr or Fountain's Abbey for your daily exercise outing. Please see the Government website for more details on what you can and can't do during the national lockdown.

What we want to focus on in this newsletter is everything we CAN still do! We've got information on online events, how to celebrate Valentine's Day on Lockdown and lots lots more!

We also want to thank everyone who took part in our Christmas Trail with Harrogate BID! It was a HUGE success and we'll be working with Harrogate BID again - so watch this space for more brilliant family friendly events coming soon!

It's been a tough start to the year, we'd like to thank you all for visiting our site - it means the world to us!

We’d like to leave you with this:

"For all those people finding it difficult at the moment. The sun will shine on you again and the clouds will go away". Captain Sir Tom Moore 1920 -2021.

Love from Sally, Kate, Kayti & Evie at Harrogate Mumbler x

We've compiled a list of ideas on how to celebrate Valentines day at home, things that you can include all the family in too!

Cardswith people out shopping less, why not make your own card this year? Don’t worry if you’re not creative – we’ve got some here you can download – either download and colour them in yourself or downloaded them already done!

Order a take away– It’s lovely when you become a family to celebrate Valentine’s day all together, but somethings we’d like to enjoy without little ones! I think this year we will definitely mark the occasion with a take away once the kids are in bed! Set the table, light some candles and go all out. We have an extensive list of all local eateries right here.

Support LocalThere are so many local businesses that have an online presence that we can support even on lockdown! We’ve got a list right here and here.

Treasure Hunt We’re doing one where all the clues relate to Mummy and Daddy and the kids have to find the answers – when we got married etc – with some love heart chocolates at the end for a little treat! A game like Mr and Mrs could easily be played at home and the kids would find it hilarious!

Baking– my husband always says I won him over with my sausage rolls! Baking is great on so many levels, I absolutely love it – it brings me so much joy making something people enjoy to eat. So not only is it good for your mental health, its something that you can do with the kids. It’s one of the only things that keeps my little girl engaged! And at the end you’ve got something delicious to eat! Lots of baking ideas right here!

Home made gifts– how about making a keep sake? Get the kids involved – even if it’s just making a card, it’ll certainly keep the kids entertained for half an hour – and at this stage we’ll take anything right?!

Don't forget to check out our Lockdown Resources for Families too!

How to keep the kids focussed in Online Learning Sessions

Guest Blog by Emma Meadus, Head Teacher at Coppice Valley Primary School

Remote education is hard. It’s tough for parents to play the role of teacher and balance their work commitments. Children are understandably finding it hard to concentrate out of a school setting. I’ve collected 10 tips from my staff who are teaching from home while managing their own children’s remote education too. To find out what the tips are and read the full blog, click here.

Hopefully, we’ll be back in the classrooms before too long but in the meantime, know that you’re all doing a brilliant job and deserve a huge pat on the back, thank you!

Starting secondary school: how to find ‘the one’

Is your child due to start Year 7 this September? Whether a private education is the only route for you or you’re considering both state and independent schools, with our five tips, you can find the right school with minimal stress.

We offer an outstanding system of support and an extensive induction process to ensure Year 7 pupils thrive in their new environment, whether they are joining us from our Prep School or from elsewhere. This process is designed to help both parents and children feel confident, starts in the Summer before they are due to start, and continues through the first weeks and months as the pupils settle in. We help children to embrace the opportunities and challenges that come with this new chapter, develop rewarding relationships with their peers and College staff, and ultimately, excel in their learning.”

For more information on Year 7 at Ashville, visit our website to request a copy of our brochure or to speak to our friendly Admissions team. To read the full blog, including the five tips, click here.
