Spotlight: The Georgia run-off

We are now less than a month away from the two run-off elections in Georgia that will determine ultimate control of the Senate at the beginning of January. We looked back at the most engaged news about the candidates since the declaration of Biden's victory on November 7th.

The most engaged piece by some distance was a look at David Perdue's stock trading, which has far outpaced that of his Senate colleagues, and has included companies that the Senate committee he sits on oversees, per the New York Times's reporting. This piece has received almost 270k engagements since its publication last week. The Times also reported specifics of his profits, including that he made money from a naval contractor while overseeing the naval fleet.

Another point of interest has been the Republican candidates' willingness to involve themselves with Donald Trump's electoral conspiracies, with both Perdue and Kelly Loeffler calling on the Georgia Secretary of State to resign, as reported by Breitbart

News about Democrats Jon Ossof and Raphael Warnock has generally been less engaged, though there has been a good deal of coverage on plans to help Democrats win more broadly.

One such piece focused on presidential candidate Andrew Yang moving to Georgia to aid in campaigning. Another looked at a bipartisan group trying to register teens that became eligible to vote between the general election and the run-offs. These received 113k and 111k engagements respectively.

Top 10 political stories of the last day

Below are the top ten stories of the last 24 hours, ranked by total engagements. The majority of the top news focused on Rudy Giuliani's Covid diagnosis, with the top three pieces all covering the matter. The most engaged article came from ABC News.
