NEWS AND EVENTS

  • (PASET-RSIF) Studying abroad during the Covid-19 pandemic – the experiences of three African women PhD students. The stories of RSIF PhD scholars on international sandwich placement illustrate the pandemic’s impacts on their personal lives and research productivity and their immense resilience in the face of challenges brought on by the pandemic.
  • (PASET-RSIF) (EVENT) RCU-RSIF will be hosting the 6th RSIF Monthly Webinar Series. Dr Julius Ecuru, Head BioInnovate, icipe will present on “How to increase the value of intellectual assets in academic and research settings”. Register here Date: 16 December at 3pm EAT
  • (PASET-RSIF) The PASET Consultative Advisory Group was updated on the RSIF endowment fund and discussed the RSIF annual conference 2021 in its meeting on 8 December 2020.
  • (PASET-RSIF) RSIF scholar Sylvia Maina, who is registered at Sokoine University of Agriculture and currently doing her sandwich programme at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, spoke at the closing ceremony of  the Global Food Security Conference on 9 December 2020.
  • (EVENT) Report Launch: The Equality Equation - Advancing the Participation of Women and Girls in STEM, The World Bank Gender Group and the Education Global Practice Date: 10 December at 3 pm EST
  • Education networks ask AU to help lobby governments
  • Insects for food, feed and other uses: icipe scientists were part of the technical committee that worked on three standards (KS 2921, KS 2922-1 and KS 2922-2) on edible insects for food approved by Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) as national standards through Kenya Gazette Notice No. 10268 dated 4 December 2020.
  • TWAS announces new slate of award winners Dr. Menale Kassie (Principal Scientist and Head of the Social Sciences and Impact Assessment Unit at icipe) wins the TWAS Siwei Cheng Award in Economic Sciences “For advancing our understanding of the process and impacts of multiple-technology adoption in complex social and agricultural environments in sub-Saharan Africa”.

"My research is inquiring farmers' perception and adoption of climate change adaptation strategies, examining household level determinants of food security". Fenet is an assistant professor at Jimma University, Ethiopia.

Research Area: A Quadruple-Hurdle Model of Production and Market Participation of Farm Households in Ghana
"My aim is to construct a structural model of agricultural commercialization assessing how commercialization affects food security and nutritional outcomes of farm households."
