Hungry for Headway is our weekly cook-a-long session at our #DigitalDayCentre.

We have been baking Chocolate Brownies, Truffles, Apple Fritters and Banana Cake!  Next week we are making Mince Pie Flapjacks which are a great little treat that we can eat throughout the festive season and beyond!

We know this December may be very different from the usual.

We know this year has been a difficult one for us all.

As we come to the end of 2020 we want to give you a chance to take something positive from this year and help us make a real difference to the brain injury survivors and the families we support.

The impact of this pandemic on brain injury survivors and their families cannot be underestimated. In a survey conducted by Headway - the brain injury association 57% of survivors who sustained their injury in the last two years said their rehabilitation had been negatively affected.

Over the last eight months our delivery of service has changed dramatically, we had to quickly respond to how COVID-19 was going to affect the way we provide vital specialist support and rehabilitation services to our members.

Without us some of the most vulnerable members of our community would have had no support network to rely on.

Everyone at Headway Leicester has been working tirelessly since March to ensure our services and support remain open and with the least amount of disruption. The members we are still supporting can now access 10 sessions each week at our #DigitalDayCentre, plus our Day Centre remains open at reduced capacity to those members who need us more than others. We are still providing weekly wellbeing calls to all members as well as sending out tailored activities which aid rehabilitation, improve wellbeing and help reduce feelings of isolation.

Giving Tuesday is a movement created as a response to the commercialisation and consumerism on the lead up to the holiday season — and a chance for people to give back in the season of goodwill.

Give Back 2020 falls on Giving Tuesday, 1st December 2020, and is your chance to come together in a moment of international gratitude and generosity and a great way for people of all ages and abilities to do something for Headway Leicester.

Charities have worked so hard this year, supporting you, your families and your communities through this crisis. Across the charity sector, charities of all sizes are facing a £10bn funding gap, which means we won’t be able to keep supporting you, your family or your community as we have been.

Now we need your help.

We are asking you to get involved in #GiveBack2020 this #GivingTuesday.

Starting on Tuesday 1st December you can help us continue to support local brain injury survivors.

1. Run a small business?

Can you GiveBack a £ or % of your sales on Giving Tuesday or on Small Business Saturday which falls on Saturday 5th December?

2. Still working from home?

GiveBack the cost of your commute for 1 week or month to Headway Leicester.

3. Having date nights at home rather than in your favourite restaurant?

GiveBack the cost of the meal. £38 will enable us to provide a day session at our day centre to an individual living with an acquired or traumatic brain injury.

4. Taken up sewing and making your own face-coverings?

Did you know you can sell your items on eBay and donate the proceeds to us? Find out more

GiveBack what your raise to our Christmas Campaign

Hold a mince pie morning or afternoon in December and raise money for Headway Leicester.

Whether you choose to share them with colleagues over Zoom, bake a batch as a family or savour one alone, every mince pie eaten and every pound donated will help us to continue improving life after brain injury.

Simply choose a day that suits you in December, bake or buy some pies, promote your Mince Pie Morning, donate £2 and enjoy!
