Hey Good is Better family,

It's your weekly-ish love note from Tilly Hinton. This week, the final Storytime for 2020 which happens sooner than soon, ways to be part of the Rose River Memorial, and a veritable plethora of wonderful things that Storytime and LA River X alums have been up to.

It's here! The final edition of Storytime for 2020 happens tomorrow (Monday night in the US, Tuesday lunchtime in Australia). Featuring these four stellar readers - drawn at random from the 2020 lineup - all reading on the theme of instructional. Come join me as I host the big warm hug of Vassiliki Veros, Toni Robison-May, Jessica Perini, and Meredith Lancaster reading out loud to you. Aaaaaahhhhh, yes please.
The Rose River Memorial is a community-made national handcrafted COVID-19 memorial constructed from red felt roses that volunteers, hopefully including you, handmake and mail to us. These are gathered into many Community Installations and will culminate in a major national art installation planned for 2022. Installations consist of one rose for every single life taken by COVID-19. It’s an audacious, but important, act of paying attention to the devastation of the pandemic each of us has experienced.

The
first installation, a collaboration with Self Help Graphics and Art in East Los Angeles marked Día de los Muertos by hanging almost two hundred roses, one for every death in that small pocket of Los Angeles. It's still there - the community and the amazing folks at Self Help Graphics and Art asked us if it could stay.

Next, we hang
an installation in Santa Monica in December, hosted by Building Bridges Art Exchange. This will memorialize every death on the Westside of Los Angeles, and will include meditative and community-building activations as well as opportunities for people to safely visit the installation to grieve and add their devotions, and their roses. Come collect a free rose making kit on December 3 or attend the virtual opening on December 11.

You can also purchase a kit or donate one to someone in a community hit hard by COVID-19join the Rose River mailing list and follow us on Instagram.
Congratulations to Bonnie Foster who is continuing to win awards for her film 'Butterfly'. One of the latest wins is "Best Story" at London Fashion Film Festival. Bonnie is raising money for a music video film project about Japanese internment in America during WWII and is finishing up a short film created during quarantine. You can keep in touch with all her brilliance over on Instagram.
If you need a little something to fill your heart with joy, I'm  prescribing Storytime alum Josh Shayne's animated series Storylines in which comedians tell travel stories about all the places we wish we could go.
Genevieve Anderson, Storytime for the Apocalypse alum, creator of the film DUSTWUN, and all-round incredible human is hosting an event that seems just right for the final weeks of 2020, a Livestream Gentle Warrior Song Ceremony. It promises to be a space "to stop, relax and journey inward – honoring and remembering the wisdom, beauty and love awake inside you". Sign me up! Click here to grab your free ticket on Eventbrite.
Buckle up for Storytime alum Char Miller's incisive and bleak primer on 2020 in fire history and what it means for our collective future.
Rocketing to the top of my Christmas wish list is Storytime alum Eames Demetrios' latest offering: Kcymaerxthaere Parallel Universe Cookie Cutters. These cutters will equip you to communicate in the Nyelvate shape language you know and love from Episode 9 when Richard could-read-the-telephone-book-and-be-enthralling Sanderson read us stories from Eames' decades long storytelling project.
Also in gift shopping, you've got to check out LA River X alum Peter Bennett's stunning river photographic prints and also Margaret Gallagher  who has illustrated a dreamy native plant sweatshirt and compiled an endlessly helpful native plant gift list.
Rounding out our gift list for the holiday season, S. Sean Tretheway who read at Storytime waaaaaay back in Ep 3 has a collection of adventurous, uplifting novels that he wrote over on his websiteAnd if you happen to be in Noosa, he is offering real life close up magic experiences that one attendee described as  the most fun she'd ever had with her clothes on!
