“We’ve already told you many times to stop sharing Bibles and building churches,” said the officer to Pavel Goya's father. During the Romanian communist era, those who were against the government or who were sharing Bibles were often arrested and beaten badly. “So many of my friends were beaten very badly,” says Pavel, Ministry magazine editor, “but it didn’t stop anything.” Nevertheless, for some well-known people, additional consequences could be even worse.
One comedian, for instance, after speaking on TV for many years, started to subtly make fun of the dictator. Not wanting to make the comedian a martyr, the government officials decided to kill him in such a way that they wouldn’t appear guilty of his death, So, they radiated him without his knowledge and sent him home to die. That time, instead of beating Pavel (the father), the officers just warned him again and, strangely, let him alone in a room during the whole night. In the morning he was allowed to go home, apparently unharmed. Goya smiled and asked, “You just left me alone in a room?” But they shook their heads and said, “You don’t get it, do you?” But after a few days, Goya experienced extreme diarrhoea, started to lose his hair, and then began losing his nails. The doctor told him that he had leukaemia caused by high radiation. “If I live, I live for Jesus”, said Goya before resting in the Lord. “If I die, I die for Jesus. Sometimes, it is good to take out a big tree so that small trees may grow. Please, God, give fire to my children.” He longed for his children to love and witness for the Lord, and God granted his request!
How much are our children ready to sacrifice for Christ? If they are not willing to sacrifice something in order to keep the Sabbath, to retain moral purity, to live a healthful lifestyle, or to return tithes and Promise, will they in the future be willing to sacrifice even their lives for Jesus? It is today that we must teach them by instruction and example how to sacrifice for Christ.

While we worship You with tithes and Promise, help us to learn how to sacrifice for You,
and how to teach the next generation to do the same!
Amen.

Photos for the Christmas Video

Our Church family will be celebrating Christmas on Sabbath, 19 December
and I've been asked to put together our traditional collection of photos
to share during the service. As this has been a year that we haven't
seen each other's faces very often, I thought it would be nice if you could
provide me with a current family photo (though I do have some
historical ones tucked away if that's not possible).

If you could have your photos to me by Friday, 11 December,
that will give me enough time to put it all together.

Send them to me via Messenger,
email: carolong4@gmail.com or get me to take your photo
when we're at the church picnic on 5 December!
Thanking you in anticipation.

~ Carolyn Sherriff

Thank you to Kendra Eggu for sharing her expertise in natural health with us. For the next three Sabbaths, Kendra will be presenting a short video on how to survive and thrive in the approaching festive (or could also be known as FEASTive) season with strings of parties and celebrations, over-indulgence of rich foods, and overeating.

Many of our long-time members would remember Kendra as a slight 9-year-old when the Samuels family first started attending Castle Hill Church. We've watched her grow up, study, fall in love with and marry a gorgeous guy named Safawo Eggu, and then just over a year ago, bring baby Adem into the world.

Kendra's passion for health started at an early age, she was raised in a health-conscious family which made her more aware of the difference that living healthily can make. When she left school, she studied naturopathy and nutrition. She has always been blessed with good health and now takes  joy  in helping others achieve a

better quality of life and optimum well-being using natural and evidence-based health interventions.

Kendra has an interest in treating skin conditions, improving the health of shift workers, improving sporting performance, weight management, preventative medicine, arthritis & autoimmune disease. Kendra’s consults are health fund accredited and she always goes the extra mile for each of her clients.

If you would like a lifestyle tuneup, Kendra practises at Living Health & Wellbeing, and can help you with all types of health issues, treating the cause not the symptoms with natural and dietary approaches. Please check Kendra's Facebook page, or her website.

ALL proceeds donated to Mental Health, the area being focused on is the Depression & Anxiety Recovery Program*, that deals with recovering from anxiety, depression and its associated causes. With the covid restrictions affecting so many in our community, this is a very worthy program, designed to offer sound advice and recovery measures.

* (The program is offered by American Doctor, Dr Neil Nedley, founder and medical director of the “Nedley Depression Anxiety Recovery Programs”, and “Optimize Your Brain Program”, designed to enhance emotional intelligence. Dr Nedley is an award-winning practising physician and president of the Weimar Institute. His emphasis is on gastroenterology, mental health, lifestyle medicine and difficult-to-diagnose patients. He also developed a very successful 10-day residential depression recovery program for the treatment of resistant depression and anxiety.)

Are you thriving or just surviving? The COVID pandemic has created a concurrent crisis around mental health. We all need to be taking care of each other, but that includes ourselves. This is especially true for healthcare workers. This site from the Colorado Healthcare Ethics Resource Group offers information and resources to help address the anxiety and stress that can, if left unaddressed, deteriorate into crisis. https://cohcwcovidsupport.org/
Farewell, and all the best...

We'd like to wish Lachlan and Jess Roy the very best for their move to Adelaide this week. Jess is looking forward to being close to her family again, who all live in Adelaide.

We'd like to convey our condolences to the Plewa family as they conducted the funeral of Jess' dad's father this week. He was 96 years old and much loved by the family.
In this stressful time with many upheavals and adjustments, our prayer is that Lachlan, Jess, Jess's family and Rob and Sharon Roy will feel the peace of God at this unsettled bitter/sweet time, a time mixed with sadness and exciting new futures. God bless you!

Prayer Requests

Dear God,
Please untie the knots that are in my mind, my heart, and my life.
Remove the have-nots, can-nots, and do-nots.
Erase the will-nots, may-nots, might-nots that may find a home in my heart.
Release me from the could-nots, would-nots, should-nots that obstruct my life.
And most of all, Dear God, I ask that you remove from my mind, my heart, and my life all of the “am-nots” that I have allowed to hold me back, especially the thought that I am not good enough.
Amen

Our church family has many needs, and we ask that you keep the following people and situations in your daily prayers for healing, help and support.
  • Please keep on supporting our production team and those involved in presenting each week, as they prepare the online services every Monday.

  • Please keep on supporting and praying for our leadership team, our elderly, children, youth, families.

  • Please pray for Eva and Geoff Greive and their family as they make the big adjustment in their home and lives, and as they face the farewell of Eva's mother, Krystyna on Sunday, 6 December. Details below:

Vale (Farewell) Krystyna Varzonek

Geoff & Eva would like to invite you to celebrate the life of Krystyna with them on

Please keep Eva & Geoff in your prayers. Please ask God to give them strength,
wisdom and peace through their season of life in dealing
with the loss of their much-loved mum.

  • We ask for prayer and support for Frances Scavia as she has watched her father's health decline for a long time, and he passed away last Wednesday at Hornsby Hospital. Our deepest condolences, Frances and extended family, at this difficult and sad time. Here are details of John's memorial service:
Baby Imogen is home!
After the infection cleared up as her neutrophils started to rise, her doctors have sent her home on oral antibiotics. It has been so good to have her home for the last few days, and have the family all back together. Praise God!

Although she is still weak we have been so relieved that she seems to be putting on actual weight too. Thank you for praying about this. So now, Imogen has finished the “high strength” chemo treatment. This is a significant step. Praise God! Her oncologist is about to start her on “maintenance chemo” - which will hopefully take less of a toll on her tiny body.
  • Please pray for God to give her oncologist wisdom and direction to the right course of treatment that will totally eliminate all cancer in her.
  • Please pray for baby Imogen’s full healing from brain cancer, congenital Glioblastoma Multiforme Grade 4.
Thank you. Chris & Rea

A Note from Neroli

I just wanted to pass on a note of thanks from my family for the support we have received in the weeks following dad’s passing. I’m also adding the link to his funeral for those of you who have asked for it.

It has been a very hard time for Declan, Luna, Val and myself as well as my brother Allan and his family and Aunty Gill Weekes and her family. We are blessed to know we will see him and my mum again, and while it softens the blow, it doesn’t fill the void left by such an incredible man.
On a Head-over-heels, Happily-ever-after Note

For those who remember James and Kaylene Venagas who volunteered at Castle Hill Church during 1998, you may like to know that the son who was born while they served at Castle Hill was married last Sunday! Little Daniel is all grown up and is now married to a beautiful young lady, Samantha.

Supporting Our Parents
How do you first learn to tell right from wrong? Who knows you better than anyone else in the world? For those of us blessed with parents who love and care for us, our moms and dads are our first teachers and our loudest cheerleaders. God's word tells us: "My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother and father." Proverbs 1:8.

21 Ways to Have an Amazing COVID-19 Sabbath

The first church (home) comes into its own right now. You parents are the best faith transmitters on the planet! Let’s make COVID-19 Sabbaths memorable for your family. Light some candles…open Sabbath...and let’s get this show on the road!

Here are 21 ways to have an amazing COVID-19 sabbath at your house. How many can you do?
  1. Cook an amazing breakfast for your kids. Do Something special.
  2. Sing some songs together… make a creative band together using things around the house for instruments.
  3. Play a Bible game, quiz. Make up your own rules is always fun.
  4. Ask your kids to preach the sermon… It is always interesting to see what they came up with.
  5. Ask each of your kids to tell their favourite Bible story and explain why it is their favourite.
  6. Watch a nature film together.
  7. Do a Bible treasure hunt in your backyard. Some of the psalms are great for this. Pick one and ask your children to illustrate with objects from your backyard.
  8. Serve someone together. Find a need in your community and fill it.
  9. Help your kids make cards thanking our health workers or supermarket workers or teachers for what they are doing on the front line. Help your kids deliver them.
  10. Do a craft together based on what you can scrounge around the house. Put bits and pieces on the table and allow kids to be creative.
  11. Build a lego church building and help your kids discuss what church really is while you are playing together.
  12. Have your kids choose a parable and act it out (charades).
  13. Find Arnie's Shack online and play it for your kids.
  14. Ask your kids to find the best YouTube clip or picture that best portrays what Jesus is to them. Take turns sharing and explain why.
  15. Start a prayer walk/walk using post it notes or similar and help kids come up with things to pray for on the walk/wall.
  16. Read a good Christian novel together. Children love the anticipation of each chapter.
  17. Download the Gracelink animation. Watch and discuss together.
  18. Have an art competition. Have your kids draw a picture of what they think heaven will be like… Compare and contrast.
  19. Make some popcorn together and pray a popcorn prayer together as the corn pops….. then enjoy the snack.
  20. Make a Sabbath Spotify playlist together - pass the phone around and each person search for and add a song as the playlist plays.
  21. Read a Bible passage together using the Discovery Bible Reading method:

Ways to Serve & Give
The Heart2Heart Pillow Project aims to encourage healing, offer support and provide comfort to breast cancer patients and other people who had surgery. The pillow is used to soothe both physical and emotional pain immediately after surgery, radiation or treatment.  It not only helps to provide protection and support to the wound but is also a source of comfort and a token of love and care. Sydney Adventist Women have set a goal of 500 heart pillows to be made and donated to this course.
Here are the instructions for how to get involved:

Worship Service Podcasts

Listen to the messages that have been presented this year
via our online services.

COVID-19 pushed church online, but the silver lining is that you can join from anywhere. Here are the sermons in case you missed one or enjoy listening to church while driving!

Our (growing) library of online church sermons is now available to listen to as a podcast! Pop over to https://castlehillsda.transistor.fm/ to catch up on any episode, or subscribe using your favourite podcast app (search in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Podcast Addict, etc).

Some aspects of our church video programmes don't work so well without the visual element, and so this podcast is deliberately just the sermon (and welcome) from each week. The back-catalogue is already up, and each week a new episode will be published.

Here are some suggested uses for a sermon podcast:
  • catch up on a sermon after being interrupted while watching church with young kids!
  • listen while driving to a sermon you liked and/or missed!
  • "do church" while cycling or jogging to exercise your body and soul at the same time!
  • share with your hipster podcast-listening friends to spread the valuable messages more widely!
  • email an episode link to your non-tech-literate grandparents to give them wholesome entertainment while knitting!
  • play it really loudly to evangelise to your neighbours!

For those entering the church premises for worship service recordings, study groups and bringing offerings and donations, please be aware of our
