Term 4, 2020 is almost over and what a year it has been! We would like to extend a very big thank you to all of our education agents for your loyalty, support and patience this year and wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe new year.

This Issue
This term we celebrated ALG Heritage Day. This event falls in line with International Students Day and is a celebration of the multiculturalism of our international students. Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney campuses held a 2-day event encouraging everyone to come dressed in their traditional garments or colours and our wonderful Student Experience team served lunch to all our students. PREVIOUS ISSUES

Our final working day for this year will be Friday 18th December 2020 and we will be returning on Monday 4th January 2021. During the Christmas break, our campuses will be closed but our Admissions team will be working remotely with limited headcount (except on 24th Dec, 25th Dec, 31st Dec and 1st Jan). The expected response time as well as LoO/CoE turnover time during the Christmas break remains to be 24 hours. We look forward to seeing you all in 2021.
 
After successful trials in our Sydney campus, ALG is pleased to announce the launch of in-house English testing in all ALG campuses, effective 22 January 2021. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, all new applicants seeking to study with ALG will be required to sit our in-house English test for applications submitted from 22 January 2021.

How will it work?
  • Students can book an appointment online to undertake the test on-campus.
  • Multiple date and time options will be available each week.
  • The test takes approximately 60 minutes to complete.
  • The test is free of charge for the first attempt.
If a student is not successful in their first attempt, they can re-sit the test. A $30 fee applies.

Please note that students presenting the following evidence are not required to undertake the test:  
  • IELTS and other approved official English language test results (such as TOEFL, CAE, PTE) with a score that meets the relevant ALG course entry requirements.
  • Any Certificate IV qualification (or higher) from the Australian Qualifications Framework that was completed in Australia within two years of the commencement of studies with ALG.
Applicants are also exempt if they are a citizen and hold a passport from the UK, USA, Canada (excluding Quebec), NZ or the Republic of Ireland.
 
Bachelor of Early Childhood Education
(CRICOS Code: 102713G)

ALG is happy to be working collaboratively with Ikon Institute to offer a pathway into Bachelor of Early Childhood Education course.

Students from ALG who graduate with CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care qualification may be eligible for entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. Eligible applicants may receive course credit via the grade of Advanced Standing for up to 11 subjects. To find out more, visit our Higher Education Pathways page.

Discounted Fees
Further extending its support for both current and prospective international students, Ikon Institute is offering a $450 discount on subjects undertaken by international students during calendar year 2021. See the updated course fees here. 

Open Day
Ikon have another intake fast approaching in February 2021 and have arranged a Virtual Open Day on 15th December 2020 5:30pm-6:30pm (AEDT). This Virtual Open Day is open to all our partners as well as any prospective students. The purpose of the event is to give you the chance to learn about the Ikon Institute, speak to some of our wonderful staff members. Register here today!
 
Term 4 2020 'You Spoke, We Listened' ALG Action plan.

Based on our students' feedback to Term 3 surveys, ALG is taking the below actions:

Improve communication

We listened: Launched the new student newsletter in October 2020.
We listened: New student voice group to launch on Facebook November 2020.
We listened: New student learning resource feedback option now available in Canvas.

Students Spoke:
More engaging, fun social activities

We listened: We ran the inaugural ALG Jellybean guessing competition.
We listened: We arranged the ALG International Student Heritage Day celebration.
We listened: We will celebrate the graduates from Terms 1, 2, 3, and 4 2020.

Students spoke:
Improve the campuses

We listened: Vending machines to be installed November 2020.
We listened: New data projectors installed in York Street Sydney campus.
We value our students' feedback and commit to continue Student Experience improvement!
