EDITION #8
👋Welcome to Edition #8 of Sailist's Fortnightly Roundups! You may have noticed the new subject title...

Here is an announcement: Sailist's Roundups is now titled, This Fortnight In The Ecosystem. I decided to re-title it because I'm combining the weekly accelerator roundups and funding roundups into one big fat jam-packed fortnightly newsletter.

Why the change? Firstly, I wanted to do it because there is plenty of intersection between both topics (i.e. accelerators and startup funding), and combining the two will let me focus on the quality of the content as opposed to just trying to hit quantity targets. Secondly, my friend and co-newsletter writer Warwick got a full-time job running finance and ops at Nutromics (a very cool medtech startup). Since he's also juggling his Masters of Data Analytics and his own project at Startup-funding, he decided he needed to reprioritise with the sheer amount of stuff he had on his plate. Wishing him the very best!

Now, back onto the goods! Australian programs are slowing down as we approach the year end. Startup funding is still going strong. Events are aplenty. Without further ado...

💴 Why are Aussies conservative towards venture debt? OneVentures principal Nick Gainsley has three theories. "Venture debt can be used for a variety of uses, both at or near the time of an equity financing round or between them. It should be used to complement equity finance and not act as a complete replacement. Used correctly, it will help magnify the returns of all shareholders through providing access to capital to invest and increase company value without giving up so much of the shareholder’s ‘pie’."

🚀 Antler Partner, Bryan Ciambella and Antler Senior Associate, Bijon Keswani, break down trends across the US venture landscape. Read about the current landscape as well as Antler's views on specific areas that they are actively sourcing and deploying capital into.
