Dear Murujuga/Burrup/FARA supporters,

We are writing to let you know about the following two important events:

‘”Captured State”’: the influence of the gas lobby on WA’: report and campaign launch
Wednesday 2 December

Climate action group 350 Perth has just published an important report on the frightening political influence of WA’s gas lobby over WA State Government decision-making (a subject with which FARA campaigners are all too familiar! )

FARA was asked to contribute a section of the report on the WA gas industry’s major impact on the Burrup’s globally significant cultural heritage values (see pages 5-6 of the report).

The report itself makes sobering reading: http://350perth.org.au/captured-state/

For media coverage of the Captured State report, see this article from WA Today: https://www.watoday.com.au/national/too-close-to-the-flame-wa-government-accused-of-being-limp-on-climate-change-after-revolving-doors-with-oil-and-gas-giants-20201124-p56hi4.html?fbclid=IwAR0NHc1U2Ytf4PwzA8iXANtffHqzDfl_GpyNhSxkfF2KOygMdvcJLEf-RW4

FARA has also been invited to make a 15 minute slide presentation at the Captured State report and campaign launch, co-hosted by FARA, 350 Perth and Frack Free WA:

Wed., 2 December 2020
6:30 pm – 8:00 pm AWST

How to meet with your MP workshop
Hosted by 350 Perth and Citizens’ Climate Lobby
Wednesday 9 December 630 pm,
Uniting Church in the City, 97 William Street

‘Learn how to discuss the findings of the recently released Captured State report with your local state representatives. Be part of making our democracy stronger against the influence of gas lobbyists’

Participants in the ‘Captured State’ campaign will be briefed on how to call your local MP to account on the gas industry’s ongoing destruction of Burrup rock art, as well its contribution to the ongoing climate emergency.

We urge FARA supporters to participate in this campaign in the lead up to the State election in March as a way of pressuring the WA State Government into taking real action on climate change and protecting the Burrup’s world heritage cultural values.
