Sustainable Urban Transportation System in Daejeon
FOR city of Daejeon, eco-friendly, science and technology, and citizens are the key words for public transportation system development. The city has an eco-friendly transportation system using science and technology and puts top priority on people. Daejeon has witnessed how the development in public service also generates sustainable growth in local society. “Ta-shu” is a public bike rental system that local people and tourists can all use. The name ‘Ta-shu,’ meaning ‘Take a ride’ in a standard language, is the dialect from Chungcheong Province nearby Daejeon. Click

Gunsan's Public Food Delivery Service: Local Innovation Going National
FACING the pandemic, local government of Gunsan innovates to revive local economy. The city has been working on “Gunsan Sarang” (Gunsan Love) project that issues local currency namely Gunsan Sarang Gift Certificate. The goal is to ensure the money circulates locally and to help its recirculation in local area. Aiming to the same goal, Gunsan city has also launched ‘Master of Delivery’ (Baedal Myungsu), the country’s first public food-delivery application. Its effectiveness encourages local governments of other cities to replicate and even national level government. Click

Asia-Pacific Mayors Academy Second Class Launches Virtually
24 November 2020 | UCLG ASPAC, a founding member and permanent member of the Advisory Board of the Asia Pacific Mayors Academy took part in the virtual launch of the Academy’s second class. The Academy welcomed its second batch of fellows at the virtual opening and conduct of its first module. After a rigorous application and selection process, a total of 16 mayors from 9 countries have been selected as fellows for the class: Onkaparinga (Australia), Sawahlunto (Indonesia), Mahalaxmi and Surat (India), Tehran Districts 9, 11, and 13 (Iran), Hang Tuah Jaya and Kuala Selangor District Council (Malaysia), Cauayan, Iriga, Naga, and Ormoc (Philippines), Puttalam (Sri Lanka), Koh Tao (Thailand), and Mezitli (Turkey). IUC Asia's Final Webinar: Showcasing CAPs Progress of Cities in Indonesia
4 November 2020 | UCLG ASPAC, under the framework of the International Urban Cooperation (IUC) Asia programme, had supported pilot cities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam in the development of city’s Climate Action Plans (CAPs) according to the Global Covenant of Mayors’ Common Reporting Framework (GCoM CRF). Since 2019, the cities had received relevant knowledge transfers, capacity building, international networking, and technical assistance to enable them realise their climate commitment. As IUC Asia programme is coming to an end in November 2020, the CAPs from pilot cities arrived at its completion. To showcase the developed CAPs, IUC Asia held final webinars for pilot cities in respective country. Click
