Cornas has come a long way in the last couple of decades, producing wines that can rival any of the more glamorous Northern Rhone appellations. Cornas produced by the likes of Verset and Allemand command prices like those of the best Cote Roties and Hermitages. It's refreshing then to come across a small family estate which is starting to make a name for itself. Gilbert Serrette married into a Cornas family of growers and learned to make wine from his father-in-law, Henri Dumien and the wines are now bottled under their combined names. 80 year old Syrah vines are planted in the small Lieu-Dit of Patou. This hillside faces south-east at the southern entrance to the village of Cornas. Year on year the wines have improved and started to gain in critical acclaim. The 2019 is the best yet and I recommend snapping it up whilst it still represents great value.
