Hi, All,

It's hard to believe we're already in that quick sprint between Thanksgiving and the New Year.

Phew. 2020 has been both a total slog and a blur. (How is that possible?) Here at Creative Nonfiction, we've been fortunate to have weathered this year relatively intact—and we have you, our readers and students, to thank for that; we're grateful. To celebrate and to give back (and in an attempt to add some normalcy, some rhythm to this consistently chaotic year), we offer our annual Holiday Sale

Between now and December 14th, you can get Creative Nonfiction magazine subscriptions for half price; single issues of True Story for just $1; books for $8 each; T-shirts for only $5; and more.

Change is coming in 2021. Both in the broad sense (c'mon, vaccine!) but also here at Creative Nonfiction. In the spring we will launch a brand new website and a new look for the quarterly magazine. And—full disclosure—prices for the magazine (both subscriptions and cover price) will most likely increase.

Which means there's never been a better time to subscribe. Plus, if you subscribe now, not only will you save some serious money, but you'll be among the first to get our winter issue, Creative Nonfiction #74: "Moments of Clarity," which heads to the printer this week.

Also on the horizon: a slate of terrific Wednesday webinars on writing engaging characters and vivid dialogue, navigating the lit mag landscape, and developing a manageable weekly plan for drafting a book in the New Year; eleven different winter online courses designed to help you reach your writing goals; and two yearlong writing tracks—one for the personal essay and another for memoir.

Finally, if you're looking for an additional way to help us with this transition, now would be a great time to make a year-end donation in any amount to your favorite literary nonprofit. Everything helps.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We appreciate you all.

Stay warm,
Stephen Knezovich

Here are a few of our recent favorites:

@theinnerzone: How the birds have gotten plump, finding a variety of seeds at the feeder, our days a blur on the calendar. A snake ends up on our kitchen floor, the only drama we've had in months. While we push it into a bottle, release it outside, it looks as lost as we are.

11:12 AM · Nov 19, 2020

@Shumpgullion: Out the door, camera in hand. A dozen steps before I think of the small plastic card in the computer's side. Look down to confirm: NO MEMORY. Look back up and there he stands. Not ten feet away a buck has drifted from the trees. Eyes meet, and hold. A memory.

1:29 PM · Nov 23, 2020

@toddmeeka: In the compost, a burst of blood red catches my eye among the decaying greens and browns: cherry tomatoes looking ready to pluck from withered vines. We’d ripped them out at the root when first frost threatened, thinking they’d never ripen, believing them already dead.

6:29 PM · Nov 25, 2020

@PunyFingers: I tell my mother falling snow flakes look like a swarm of angry white bees dislodged from a hive. That’s weird, she says. How can she know? She’s never seen snow fall, the sleeve of white it unfolds. Will apply for a visa for her. Again.
