A Discussion on AFJM Position Papers

With Mark Young, November 23, 2020

The Alliance For Just Money has undertaken the task of drafting Position Papers on various topics of interest related to sovereign monetary reform. The goal is to provide the general public a framework on how monetary reform intersects with the major issues of today, how it can provide a viable means to addressing those issues and how it can bring progressive, conservative and libertarian ideas together. This is an ongoing project and this Coffee House discussion will center around the position papers to be published on universal healthcare and taxation if time permits.

The recording of this coffee house is on the AFJM YouTube channel.

During the presentation and discussion a few studies and ideas were offered as background information or for further study by both the Position Paper Team and participants.

This Study Stack will also be available on the AFJM Archive of Previous Newsletter and Study Stacks.

  • Monetary Reform in the Netherlands was very much helped by the satirical theater group de Verleiders (The Seducers). They produced Door de Bank Genomen (Taken by the Bank), which satirized the banking world and its practices. The production is too Dutch for an impactful English translation.

Monetary Reform and Connected Policy Proposals

1) The three prongs or pillars of full monetary reform (more on this here):

  • a) Nationalizing the money supply (no more bank credit money)
  • b) Constituting an independent entity to manage the money supply
  • c) Spending authorized debt-free money into circulation through government entities or straight to the citizenry
2) The traditional targets of Central Banks and/or sovereign monetary authorities:
  • a) Price stability
  • b) Full employment
  • c) Growing economy (alternate target: Increased Quality of life)
3) Elective policies:
  • a) Infrastructure
  • b) Health care
  • c) Education
  • d) Parity pricing
  • e) Universal Basic Income
  • f) Paying off the national debt
  • g) Tax cuts
  • h) Green New Deal
  • I) Etc.
As far as priorities and weight is concerned, 1) is non-negotiable; 2) can be hammered out in Congress through deliberations and amendments to monetary reform legislation; and 3) are personal preferences based on ideological or pragmatic considerations to be democratically decided separate from Monetary Reform.
