CICE student looking for a placement
with a Library or Museum
The CICE Program allows students with learning exceptionalities and disabilities to come to college on a modified program. We offer our students 3 placements during their 2 years in our program. The next upcoming placement begins the week of January 11, 2021 and runs for a 12 week period, with a commitment to working 6 hours per week.
If you are interested, the hours would be chosen based on the student's class schedule and what is most convenient for you. If 6 hours a week is not doable on your end, we have the flexibility to adjust that in hopes of giving our students an opportunity to experience a final placement before they graduate. Another option is a virtual placement where our students can complete a list of tasks given by their supervisor from home. In this case our students and their supervisor would communicate via email throughout the duration of their placement.
This placement is unpaid – so there is no additional cost to you or your organization. Just your time, expertise and sharing of knowledge can give one of our students the real-life experience that is so beneficial to their learning.
The interested student is currently taking modified courses with a focus on literature, all of which he is excelling in. He is in his final year of our program, and has completed a placement with Oshawa Public Library in the past. He has expressed an interest in working in a museum or a library upon graduation. He is computer savvy, works extremely well independently and requires little supervision once he understands the expectations of a task. His supervisor is confident that this student would excel in an in-person or a virtual placement opportunity.
