Important Information - New Pass/No Credit Policy
Fall 2020 has been an extraordinary semester in which Rutgers students have navigated new learning environments, technology, and unforeseen personal challenges associated with the COVID-19 crisis. Students have shown resilience and perseverance, and the university understands that the challenges have also raised concerns for some about academic performance. In response, a Pass/No Credit policy for undergraduate students is being made available for Fall 2020. While this policy may be beneficial to some, it is important for students to know:
- Converting a course grade of “D” to “No Credit” may impact financial aid.
- Converting a course grade of “D” to “No Credit” may impact prerequisites and courses for Spring 2021.
- Choosing pass/no credit may impact post-graduate school applications.
Students Who Are Considering Pass/No Credit should:
- Stay fully engaged and complete all course-work as required.
- Use academic and technical support resources to maximize academic success.
- Wait to receive final semester grades before making a decision.
- Talk to an academic advisor before making a decision.
- Consult with the One Stop Student Services Center if they receive financial aid.
The deadline for choosing the Pass/No Credit for one or more courses is Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. Students should talk with an advisor to determine if Pass/No Credit should be pursued based on their final grade in the course and the effect on their major, academic progress, financial aid, time to degree, and post-graduate plans.

Spring 2021 Updates
Chancellor Molloy recently sent a message to students regarding Spring 2021 plans:
Dear Scarlet Knights,
The schedule of courses for the Spring 2021 semester will be available on November 9, 2020. Registration for all students will open on November 30.
As I mentioned in my October 8 message, the New Brunswick academic units have been working closely with my office to determine which courses can be taught safely in-person with social distancing protocols in place. In consultation with the faculty and my academic leadership team, I have made the decision that all New Brunswick schools will offer limited in-person instruction for Spring 2021- primarily courses that require physical presence such as lab research, studio courses, and clinical instruction.
There is a palpable energy when students are on-campus. While we are eager to increase your presence and expand on-campus housing, the pandemic’s dynamic nature dictates that we proceed in a manner that enables us to pivot to full-remote instruction seamlessly if necessary.

My Campus Pass
My Campus Pass is a self-screening app that must be used by employees and students each day when traveling to campus or entering a Rutgers building. To keep students and others safe, the app asks basic questions about current health to determine if someone is cleared for entry.
To access My Campus Pass, students should log into my.rutgers.edu. Once logged in, the My Campus Pass window will be visible. Students should then click on the “Get My Campus Pass” button, which will take them to the symptom survey for completion. They will also be asked to include any Rutgers building they plan to enter that day. Once the survey is submitted, students will receive an immediate notification as to whether they've been cleared for entry.

Please encourage your students to comply with calls from contact tracers. Their information helps to inform spread. Name and personal information is kept confidential so please answer their questions honestly and completely.

The 2021-2022 FAFSA is now available. The priority deadline for incoming fall 2021 students has passed, but the deadline for continuing students is January 15. The FAFSA can be submitted online.

We invite you to join us for the final PFA meeting of the Fall semester. The December Parent & Family Association meeting will take place on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 7 PM (EST). The meeting will be held virtually on Zoom; you will receive a link after you have RSVPd.
The presenter for this month's meeting is Health Outreach Promotion and Education, and Dr. Francesca Maresca will be presenting about wellness efforts and resources at Rutgers.

The RSVP form will close on Friday, December 11 at noon. A confirmation email with the Zoom link will be sent after registration has closed.

To My Scarlet Knight: Send Your Student a Virtual Card for Finals
Finals are right around the corner, and our students could certainly benefit from some support and encouragement as they approach the finish line for the semester! We have created "To My Scarlet Knight" virtual cards so you can send a sweet message to your students to uplift them and provide them with much needed cheer before they take their exams.
If you'd like to send your students a virtual greeting card for finals, please fill out the form with your message by Friday, December 11. We will create the virtual card and email it on your behalf, so students will receive an email from you as they prepare for finals!

Parent and Family Welcome Video: Be a Star!
Dear Rutgers Parents & Family Members,
My name is Ashlea Coulter and I am the Associate Director of New Student Orientation and Family Programs at Rutgers University. Each semester we host Orientation programs where we welcome, prepare and engage thousands of new Scarlet Knights and their families as they transition to the Rutgers community. At Parent and Family Orientation, we show a video starring our own Rutgers parents and family members to help incoming parents and families of Scarlet Knights feel welcomed from someone who was once in their shoes.
We are looking to update our welcome video and we need your help! We would like to include new additions to our video, ensure that our video is representative of our diverse Rutgers community, and capture advice/encouragement for navigating the transition to college, including our unprecedented virtual education setting.
We would love for you to share supportive messaging, advice and/or experiences with incoming parents & family members by recording a short 1-2 minute video that will be shown during the Orientation Program.

The New Brunswick Official Student Listserv (NBOSL) contains timely academic and student information, such as updates from the Registrar, Student Accounting, and Health Services. Students are responsible for knowing the information in these notices and taking appropriate action when necessary. The NBOSL is published every Tuesday during the semester, and parents and families are welcome to keep informed by viewing these weekly notices on nbosl.rutgers.edu.

The Rutgers Student Food Pantry is offering free boxed lunches to students on 12/4, 12/11, and 12/18. Sign up here.
One lunch per student, and students must pick up their own meal. Must show RUID and practice social distancing.

The Big Chill is a charitable event that has served the Rutgers University-New Brunswick, NJ community since 2003. To keep the spirit of the community and togetherness alive, we will be offering a virtual 5k, which will support two charities.
The first is Winter Wishes, an annual holiday-themed event that provides over 400 New Brunswick pre-school children with gifts for the holiday season. The second is the Rutgers Food Security Fund (Rutgers-- New Brunswick Student Food Pantry), which provides food weekly to Rutgers students experiencing food insecurities.
Participants will have the opportunity to run or walk a 5K at a location of their choice between December 12 - December 20 and submit their 5K times. All runners who log in their time will be entered for a chance to win prizes! The $20 race fee includes a Rutgers winter hat. Proceeds from the race will benefit our two charities.
The Big Chill has been a staple within the Rutgers University-New Brunswick Community for almost 20 years and enjoyed by thousands of runners each year. Our goal is to keep the Big Chill tradition alive, despite the current times, give back to the community and keep participants motivated and healthy. Please join us once again in our annual event.

Student Study Spaces on Campus
Are your students looking for the perfect place to study for finals? Do they need a quiet place to get their papers done? Lucky for them, Student Centers and Activities has personal meeting room reservations for academic engagement (i.e., online classes, academic sessions, exams and meetings with professors and other Rutgers staff). Room reservations are limited to one per day for three hours, with a maximum of two people. Students can reserve space at the Busch, College Ave or Livingston Student Centers here. The Semester Is Winding Down, But Zimmerli Programs Are Not
University of Toronto professor Ann Komaromi, PhD, explores Ilya Kabakov and Viktor Pivovarov’s artistic relationship to both the Russian and Soviet cultural legacy as well as the western gaze. Specifically, she shows how Kabakov’s later work — made after his albums — with found “trash” objects in the 1980s is distinct from similar practices by artists like Robert Rauschenberg. Kabakov’s treatment of the theme of trash arose out of the context of late socialism and became, with time, a profound meditation on the relegation of the Soviet Union to the rubbish heap of history. This event, held in conjunction with the recent Zimmerli exhibition Dialogues — Ilya Kabakov and Viktor Pivovarov: Stories About Ourselves, is free, but please register here. December 7, 5:00pm (ET).
Save the Dates: During winter break, the museum will stream the 1976 film The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!, a New Year’s Eve classic in Russia. Details to be announced.

The First-Year Fellowship Emerging Leaders Program is currently recruiting for its Spring semester cohorts. Join the Service-Learning Movement!
The Rutgers University Alternative Breaks (RUAB) program is known for providing immersive service experiences designed to help students intimately explore critical social issues within the United States. RUAB aims to cultivate social responsibility, leadership, and life-long learning within participants.
As we navigate COVID-19 and the impact it has had on a national and global scale, RUAB recognizes the need to shift its geographic focus for this academic year. However, our vision remains the same. We want to continue to foster a generation of leaders committed to positive social change. Even during a global pandemic, we know we can still make an impact. We hope that you can join us in this mission!
In lieu of our traditional service trip programs, RUAB will primarily offer localized service experiences within New Jersey and the tri-state area. We hope it further empowers us to connect with, and take meaningful action in, our own communities to make it a better place for us all.
