Ward 6 Newsletter: November 2020

Published: November 30, 2020

Hello, Ward 6!

In this month's newsletter: an update on the 2021 budget deliberations, new COVID-19 restrictions, my committee appointments and more!

Budget 2021

Tax cuts, police funding and community support

WATCH: Next year’s budget deliberations are over, and I have good news.

Council has heard you loud and clear - we’ve cut property taxes across the board, maintained support for the Calgary Police Service and worked to address the concerns of marginalized Calgarians.

COVID-19 - New Restrictions

My message in light of new COVID-19 measures.

If there’s one thing I know, it’s that we can and will overcome this. That’s who we are as Calgarians. We are a resilient City that has weathered many storms. But right now, we all have a part to play.
Water Fluoridation - I Want to Hear From You

Council’s Priorities and Finance committee will receive a report Tuesday on the cost of reintroducing fluoride to the city’s drinking water.

The report found the overall cost of reintroducing water fluoridation for a 20-year service life would be $30.1 million, with an additional $2 million to $4 million needed for life-cycle maintenance activities.

I want to hear from you! Do you support the City spending $30M to reintroduce fluoride into Calgary’s water supply?

Don't Forget the 9 P.M. Routine

Unfortunately, we've been made aware of a rash of car prowling incidents in Ward 6, specifically in West Springs, Coach Hill and Signal Hill. The Calgary Police Service has made it a  priority to conduct targeted patrols and will have dedicated units in the area overnight - but they need your help. Have you started to do your 9 p.m. routine? Keep yourself safe - refer to the checklist below.
Snow and Ice Control - The City is Prepared

The cold weather is right around the corner - and that means snow and ice are on the way. With that in mind, City crews are prepared and ready to keep our roads safe. Here's a great article on the City of Calgary's snow preparedness. Stay safe out there!

2021 Committee Appointments

Last month, I was pleased to be named again as the chair of the City’s Transportation and Transit Committee, as well as to be renamed to Calgary Economic Development, the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund, the Calgary Film Centre and Calgary Municipal Land Corporation.
