COVID-19
PHYSIO ON THE FRONTLINE
We caught up and had a chat with Sophie, a physiotherapist who worked on Dublin's frontline.

Sophie had planned to come to Vancouver back in April, but of course, the pandemic had other ideas, and she decided to postpone. She thankfully arrived here in British Columbia in September past.

Sophie tells us firsthand what it's like to work in one of Dublin's biggest hospitals and what the pandemic has been like back in Ireland.

THIS WEEK'S
BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
EM DESIGNS
This week's business spotlight is all about getting a little taste of home this Christmas. We caught up with Emma from EM Designs.
____________
Hello, My name is Emma McMahon. I am from Carrickmacross, Co.Monaghan. I moved to Canada in 2016 and fell in love with Vancouver. I am a qualified

fashion and textile designer. I have a passion for designing and creating innovative and unique products. I could not travel home for Christmas this year due to the travel restrictions and I know that there are hundreds of thousands of Irish, who call Canada home, that could not do the same. So I decided to start up a small business to create uniquely Irish gift sets to give those people a small taste of home to get them through this difficult period.

I plan to expand my range of merchandise with other Irish prints & designs in future. For now, I have started with printing mugs, as a warm Cupán Tae always reminds me of home.

I also have the capacity to create any design from company logos to sports teams or even personalized party favours. The possibilities are endless so I am open to requests if anyone needs custom prints.

I appreciate all the support I have gotten so far, it’s been overwhelming. I am working hard to get all my orders out for my new customers. Love, Emma xo.

GALLERY OF PHOTOGRAPHY IRELAND
PHOTO ALBUM OF THE IRISH IN CANADA
Gallery of Photography Ireland, in partnership with the Irish Women’s Network of BC and the Consulate General of Ireland in Vancouver, is inviting Canadians with Irish heritage living in British Columbia to contribute their family album photos to The Photo Album of the Irish: Canada digital archive project.

The Photo Album of the Irish: Canada project aims to reveal and celebrate the experiences of a broad range of families - embracing diverse ethnic, religious and
cultural backgrounds - reflected through their family photo albums. The project hopes to create a unique visual record that is at once personal and universal, reflecting the connections between Ireland and its Canadian diaspora across generations.

Two to three families from BC will be chosen for the book by the Gallery of Photography Ireland, while other stories may be posted to their website. However, all submissions will be considered for a future project on Irish Families in BC

We welcome photographs from families originating in the 32 counties but are particularly interested in photographs from families with Irish heritage that reflect:
  • Canadian/Irish Frontier Apostle/Prince George histories.
  • Canadian First Nations/Irish family histories.
  • Canadian Irish family histories with a connection to mining.
Important Information:
  • If you are interested in taking part in the project, please submit your details by email to vancouvercg@dfa.ie.                                                                                Deadline for expressions of interest is Wednesday, Dec 09th 2020
  • All submissions must be completed and sent by Friday, December 18th 2020
  • Appointments for the scanning of photographs will be scheduled by the Consulate General of Ireland for the week of December 28th 2020
  • For any further information on the project, please click here
