Wikipedia project launch event 27 January 2021
As was announced in the previous newsletter, we are starting a Wikipedia project. The goal is to contribute pages to Wikipedia about (Dutch) female mathematicians. Contributing could take the form of writing, expanding, or translating a page.

On Wednesday January 27, 2021 we will launch the EWM-NL Wikipedia project with a kick-off event. This online event, which will take place in the afternoon, will consist of a Wikipedia training by Wikimedia and a first edit-a-thon (writing session).

To hear more about the event and to stay updated about the project in general, sign up using the survey below!

You can find the full invitation to the event here.
International Day of Mathematics poster challenge

The International Day of Mathematics (IDM) is held yearly on March 14. In 2021 the theme of the IDM is Mathematics for a Better World.

The organisation committee invites you to create a poster that shows one way to make the world a little bit better using mathematics. Instead of words, use pictures combined with numbers, formulas, geometric shapes, and other mathematical elements to express your idea. Use mathematics so people worldwide can understand it, even if they don't speak your language.

You can send your posters until February 15, 2021. You can find more information and how to submit your poster here.

INFORMS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion call for ambassadors

The INFORMS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Ambassadors Program will bring together groups of academic and practitioner members, graduate and undergraduate students, post-docs, and staff who will individually and/or collectively work on initiatives to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive INFORMS community.
The program is intended to provide a platform for our members to engage in DEI initiatives in a variety of areas including workplace practices, teaching, and research, and leverage our capacities as individuals (practitioners, researchers, educators, students, and staff) to contribute to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion among the broader INFORMS community.

In support of this effort, the DEI committee is currently awarding small grants (up to $2,500) for work that helps support this effort. Up to 20 projects will be funded. Guidelines to apply for a grant are as follows:

  • Any INFORMS member or staff can apply
  • Interested participants should submit an application by December 13, 2020
