Pressures from a pandemic: Syrian refugees and Jordan

New research from the World Refugee & Migration Council analyzes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Syrian refugees in Jordan — as well as the pressures on Jordan as a host country. The Council's Elizabeth Ferris and researcher Diana Rayes discuss the research findings on the multiple shocks facing Jordan today.  Read 

Welcome support from the IKEA Foundation

 
A new donation from the IKEA Foundation will provide operational support for the Council’s ambitious programme to implement the concrete recommendations in A Call to Action: Transforming the Global Refugee System needed to reset the international response to forced displacement.  Read 

Creating a network of refugee women leaders

 
WRMC President Fen Osler Hampson talks to Carleton University's Another Take about the Council's collaborations with refugee women and girls amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Hampson highlights partnerships with Global Independent Refugee Women Leaders (GIRWL) and Germany's new Action Network on Forced Displacement — Women as Agents of Change, as well as plans with tech companies to empower refugees.  Read 

Crisis in Lebanon

 
The WRMC hosted a virtual event addressing the refugee situation in Lebanon following the August 4 blast in the port of Beirut. The event highlighted the impact of COVID-19 on refugees and internally displaced persons and the need for responsibility sharing to address ongoing crises.  Watch 

Resetting the response to forced displacement

 
Our 2019 Call to Action report took a hard look at displacement on five continents, and found a global refugee system under great stress. Since then, the situation has gone from critical to catastrophic with a confluence of events and conditions leading to an awful new reality for the forcibly displaced. Our new campaign calls on the international community to #ResetTheResponse to forced displacement.  Get involved

This interactive conference led and organized by Global Independent Refugee Women Leaders (GIRWL) and hosted by the World Refugee & Migration Council will include refugee women from around the world leading discussions on topics of gender-based violence.  Register 

December 7: Placing Refugee Return and Reintegration at the Heart of International Development Policy

 
WRMC's Honorary Chair HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal will deliver a keynote speech as part of a panel of international experts on refugee return and reintegration. The online symposium will be hosted by the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies in partnership with WRMC.  Register
