Kick off the Giving Season by helping
people with epilepsy and depression.

Even when not living through a pandemic, people with epilepsy are at significantly higher risk of depression and suicide than the general population.

The Covid-19 pandemic and social distancing have increased the social isolation with which many people with epilepsy are already struggling. Depression and suicide rates are increasing across the board.

This year, Epilepsy Ottawa launched UPLIFT – a mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy program for people with epilepsy and depression. It’s proven to reduce depression, which remains lowered even a year after participants complete the program. The program was designed to be provided over the phone, making it ideal for 2020.

Giving Tuesday is a global movement to kick off the Giving Season.

For Giving Tuesday, Epilepsy Ottawa hosted a Mindfulness Meditation session with Genevieve Dowling. It featured some of the techniques used in the UPLIFT program.
