Home for the Holiday

There's No Place Like It

December 4 - 6

Celebrate the season at this year’s Hometown Holiday weekend! Downtown Peterborough will be aglow with lanterns, lights, and decorated store windows guaranteed to get you in the holiday spirit. Shops will be staying open late and a holiday night market will feature local artisans and food.  Putnam Park will be alight with a lantern art installation, "Home Sweet Home". A community art project will offer kits for you to make your own lantern at home! As you stroll, be sure to stop by the Winter Solstice Art Exhibit in The Gallery at Depot Square. On Saturday, participate in or simply enjoy, the Messiah Pop-Up Sing.   Santa will be in a special life size snow globe for photo ops!

To avoid gathering large groups of people, this year’s events and activities are spread throughout downtown and will take place over three days. As with any community gathering during the pandemic, guests must wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Highlight Diversity

December 5, 4:15pm

Electric Earth Concerts presents a continuation of its Changing the Conversation series with the Catalyst Quartet.

By videocast, the Quartet offers two works by 20th century black composers whose works are gaining recognition, and a piece by the its own Jessie Montgomery, a rising star in her generation.

The Catalyst Quartet was founded by the Sphinx Organization, a social justice organization dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts. In this concert, they celebrate the music of important black composers Coleridge-Taylor and Price from the Quartet’s upcoming CD release Uncovered, which strives to highlight works by classical composers previously overlooked by their race or gender.

"Shoes Overboard!"

The Wonders of Recycling

December 10, 7 pm

Take a break from holiday hoopla to learn more about one of the seven exhibits, "Andy Yoder: Overboard," at the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center.  Yoder was inspired by “The Great Shoe Spill of 1990” when 80,000 Nike brand shoes were lost overboard in the north Pacific Ocean. Yoder's exhibit consists of a gallery full of replicas of Nike Air Jordan 5s, each one handmade by him out of recycled packaging materials.

Yoder will discuss the installation via Zoom and Facebook Live. A link to attend is posted at brattleboromuseum.org

A New Tradition?

Outdoor Artisan Market

December 12, 11 - 2

Friends of Public Art will host an outdoor craft fair in Keene in the parking lot of 17ROX/Hannah Grimes/Green Energy Options buildings. Many artists have asked for an outdoor craft fair since this season has been swallowed by COVID. If this event goes well, events like it could happen monthly once the weather warms up again in 2021! Imagine Food Trucks, Live Music... but, for this go around simple is best because of safety concerns about gatherings. Come do some holiday shopping and help start a tradition!!
