Believe it or not, we are almost to the end of 2020! I suspect that no person among us won't be glad to see this year's end while having tremendous hope for 2021!  We are currently preparing our 2021 winter-spring season with phenomenal shows and online events. While there will not be a Heard Market to attend in Phoenix this spring, we plan on our own "Heard Market Week," March 1st - 7th, to showcase great new creations in Native Art!

On a sad note, many of you knew my mother, Sue King, over the past twenty-plus years. She passed away this week from natural causes in Scottsdale with her family at her bedside.  A few of you may remember Mom when she would help me out at the gallery when I was out of town or needed extra (free!) help. Even some may remember her passion and work in creating our early King family galleries; Leona King of Scottsdale, Serendipity of Estes Park, and Impressions LTD of Estes Park and Scottsdale.  She was such a great spirit and a tremendous builder and motivator within our lives.  To say she will be missed is an understatement.

Updates

Thank you for the response to our two recent shows.  Our opening with Kaa Folwell was an immediate sell-out!  She is amazingly creative, and she put together a beautiful body of work. Her partner, Derek No Sun Brown, finished new Sumi and India ink paintings, which have been well received.  In Scottsdale, Andrea Vargas "wowed" us again with her new series "Outlaw."  These Plein-Aire oil paintings have continued to sell quickly, and she has a wonderfully expanding group of collectors/fans.  Thanks to everyone, not just for the sales, but for helping to keep artists so motivated in these times.

Thank you!

Today, a simple "THANK YOU" doesn't seem quite enough. It's deeply heartfelt in a time of reflection.  My parents, Sam and Sue King were great champions of the wonderful artisans showing in our family galleries. We continue in the tradition of championing creative artists, art education, and bringing the best Native and Regional art to the world.  We greatly appreciate your patronage, encouraging notes, and calls of support.  I have continued to make it a priority to purchase directly from gallery artists and encourage them to continue making pottery.  Your purchases help us make this possible daily, so that's a BIG thank you!

Please continue to Stay Healthy, and let's hope that in 2021 I will get to see each of you in Scottsdale or Santa Fe!   Thank you for helping us to continue our mission in trying times.

I look forward to hearing from you with any questions or suggestions.

Gallery News...
Over the years, many of you met my mother, Sue King, either from her galleries or when she would help out at my gallery.  Sadly, she passed away this week at age 82.  My parents, Sam & Sue King, opened their first gallery in 1982 in Estes Park, Colorado,  and then their first one in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1990.  I started working in the Estes Park gallery during my summer breaks and on weekends.  Before we opened, my Mother told me that educating myself and others about Native Art and culture was paramount to success.  As usual, she was right.

My mom was a great fan of Native Art and was close friends with so many of the Native artists of her generation.  I remember when I was in 5th Grade and we went to New Mexico and she made sure I got to meet Maria Martinez at San Ildefonso.  While jewelry was more of her passion, she loved to come to each King Galleries show and see what was new from the potters. She was a champion for encouraging artists to make the riskiest, creative, and diverse pieces possible.  She never stopped challenging me to make the gallery not just a place of education and creativity, but one that was receptive to artistic aspirations and a safe place to experiment.  Her valued advice and enthusiasm will be missed every day.

Considering her continual concern with COVID-19, and the impact on the Pueblo’s in New Mexico, if anyone wishes to make donations in her name, please donate directly to the pueblorelieffund.org.  I know that it is a generosity well received and needed in these critical times.
Congrats to Autumn Borts-Medlock and Colores PBS-New Mexico on the release of their new segment. Here is the link, and check it out!  It just premiered on Thursday, December 3, 2020.  It is an insightful and creative look into the art of this dynamic Santa Clara potter.  Check it out!
Don't forget to sign up to get a notice when your favorite artist has new work in the gallery.  We have a subscription link on many of your favorite artist pages that will allow you to receive an email each time there is something new online.  The email has a photo and a full description of the original work, with a direct link to check it out on the website.  And don't worry about too much email; you can unsubscribe anytime just by clicking a link.  Click here to subscribe to the individual artist updates!  Also, let us know if your favorite artist isn't listed, we can add them in!
It's ON!
Our next "Sunday Sale-Day" will be Sunday, December 13.
Last time we had almost 100 items on sale, so get ready!  It’s one day only.

"Forward-thinking gallerists, museum curators, and clay artists themselves are fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Native clay arts. At the forefront is Charles S. King. Owner of King Galleries in Santa Fe and Scottsdale, Arizona.  He is considered by many to be the dean of contemporary Southwestern Native clay arts."
