Happy December!

We haven't even had a big snow yet, but I think many of us are feeling a bit... smothered.  This is your friendly reminder that you are not alone, and this will pass.

Personally, I've been doing a lot of thinking about what I do and don't miss during this time. Some things have been hard to lose and I can't wait to have them back. There are other things that I could really care less about not being able to do right now, things that I used to spend a lot of time stressing about.  That is very useful information and I'm going to lay off myself about them even when we open back up!

What to watch...
My Instagram Live chat next week with a patient of mine who completed TMS treatment! If you are curious about Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, join us next Wed at 12pm or check out the recording afterwards. Stay tuned for additional educational videos to be posted on my website as well.
May I recommend....

SLEEP! I know it's hard these days.  I am reading a book that is an absolute must-read if you cannot sleep. I will be implementing a lot of its recommendations in my own life and in my treatment. Here are some key points for starters:
  • There appears to be nothing as restorative and perhaps even life-prolonging as natural sleep. Sleeping pills have an important role but if they are the ONLY way that you sleep these days - let's talk. We need to make sure you are getting the benefits of the natural stuff as well.
  • Avoid alcohol right before bed, please! Besides destroying your sleep quality it also interferes with memory formation at night - even for memories formed days earlier!!
  • And the best news: we are built to nap. A 20-40 minute afternoon nap appears to have many health benefits. A large study of a population in Greece even showed a 34% lower risk of heart disease in the group that took naps of any duration.

Stay warm and safe, and enjoy the holidays~
