2020 Wrap-up

Well, one thing that I think we can all safely agree upon about 2020: none of us could have predicted how the year unfolded!

Later this month, I'll be hosting the #2021PlanningParty linkup and Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs will be hosting the Best of 2020 linkup; I hope you will join us in looking back on what we've been able to accomplish this year and plan ahead for 2021.

Coming Soon... #2021PlanningParty

Mark your calendars! For the 6th consecutive year, I will be hosting a planning party from December 14th-31st. It’s time to look back on 2020 and think about plans and goals for next year!

Curious about how it works? Here are the previous year’s linkups for you to peruse if it helps:

Stay tuned; the link up opens on Monday, December 14th!

Quilter Spotlight: Debbie Jeske @aquilterstable

Debbie @aquilterstable is a member of the Seattle MQG, and this year her improvisational and hand work have been keeping me eager to see each new project that she is working on. The quilt above, Vista Toscana, was inspired by a fabric bundle and memories of her previous travels. I think we can all relate to needing to live vicariously through our photos this year in order to "get away" for a bit.
Her embroidery samplers and other hand work explorations this year have me itching to set aside some fabric and time to explore a bit of handwork myself.

Be sure to follow along with Debbie's projects via her blog or Instagram. And while you are visiting her website, be sure to sign up for her newsletter, The Scrap Basket, on the right hand side of the page.

Blog Recap

Quilting with Liberty Book Release - I reached out to Susanne Woods from Lucky Spool in October of 2019 to discuss my goals of growing as a technical editor within the quilting industry. I met Susanne through the Modern Quilt Guild and QuiltCon, and when I reached out to her last year, she was generous with her time and replies. Armed with new knowledge, I continued to forge my path as a technical editor.

In late December, Susanne reached out to me and asked if I would consider taking on a quick turnaround technical editing job with Lucky Spool. Unfortunately, Susanne passed away in February 2020, so instead of getting to discuss the project with her in person at QuiltCon 2020 in Austin, the Lucky Spool team picked up the pieces and worked our best to navigate the path forward because this project was so close to being complete. And so, it is with deep gratitude that I can say I had a small part in helping make Quilting with Liberty come to fruition.

Donating Quilts - In light of feeling unsettled during election week, I decided to go through my quilts. I was able to gift or donate 14 quilts, and it helped me feel calm and like I was putting out love and positive energy. After all, quilts are made to be used and loved and I can’t keep them all.

QuiltCon Together Submissions - I submitted 5 quilts for consideration to the QuiltCon Together jury. It will be interesting to see which are selected and what the online format is like in February!

Upcoming Teaching Schedule

After QuiltCon Together, I plan to start expanding the virtual workshops that I offer. For more details on my current virtual lecture and workshop offerings, please visit my Teaching page or reach out to me via email: yvonne@quiltingjetgirl.com.

QuiltCon Together Supply Lists

The #QuiltConTogether supply lists became available this week. I am really excited about the three workshops that I have been putting together for you, and the supply lists will help you be prepared and ready to learn. In particular, if you are taking my Thread Painting workshop, be sure to get the suggested supplies (needles and lots of thread to explore and play with). Earlier this year sewing needles were in short supply when mask making became a necessity, so ✨please✨ start sourcing the supplies early if you don't have everything on the list.

Don't be shy, let me know if you have any questions after looking over the supply list!

And if you want to join me for a class in February, I think there are still openings in all three workshops (Quilt Design, Mini Mini Quilts, and Thread Painting)! See quiltcon.com for more info.

Blog Reading Roundup {Gift Guide Edition}

I am always blown away by the creativity and beautiful work of handmade gifts. I thought I would share a few special items that have caught my eye recently along with a few roundup links for gift giving guides that might come in handy for your family. :)

Spill the Tea - Sandra from mmmquilts has made amazing tea cozies based on a conversation with her daughter. If they speak to you or seem perfect for a friend, she's selling them in her Etsy shop!
Are you looking for a fast and fun quilt pattern for a last minute gift? Michelle (From Bolt to Beauty) has expanded her Ridiculously Easy Jelly Roll quilt an is offering it on super sale for $5 through the end of December!
If you are looking for some ideas of what to put on your holiday wish list, Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs compiled an awesome Quilters Holiday Wishlist.
I hope that you are able to find ways to celebrate safely this season, for all holidays near and dear to your heart. May we all find a spark of hope and compassion in our hearts as we work through this challenging season. And my fervent prayer is that we all have a joyful, and smoother, 2021.

Be well,
