Beginning Saturday, our website will direct you to our online shop to browse the craft fair and to St. John’s online auction site. Upon getting to the St. John's online auction site, you will need to either login or register in the top right corner of our bidding site. This will allow you to bid and check on your bids over the course of the week.
Crafts purchased through our website will be available for pick up Tuesday (12/15) and Wednesday (12/16) from 9am-6pm. We can also provide free local delivery if you request that at checkout.
We hope you enjoy shopping and bidding this week and we thank you so very much for supporting the ministry of St. John’s!

In these tumultuous times, what better way to welcome Jesus than to set aside a quiet morning to make room for his birth in our hearts and minds? During this Advent Quiet Day, we will step away from our daily tasks and concerns so that we can listen with full attention to the Spirit’s movement within us. Our intention will be to awaken to the divine Presence being given to us, moment by moment, breath by breath. Our time together will include presentations and guided meditations, with options for solitary reflection (indoors or out) or small group conversation.
Please bring a candle and matches, if you can. For the periods of free time, you may wish to have a journal or art supplies nearby, or a good warm coat so that you can head outside. Together, let’s create a space for Jesus to be born again in our lives. This online retreat is open to all, free of charge.
Each year the people of St. John’s have brought Christmas Joy to the residents of Grace House.
Since we are restricted in our social interactions this year so that we can all have a healthy, safe Christmas Season, we have come up with a plan to continue our tradition. Instead of selecting name tags from our Giving Tree, we are requesting cash donations, and will use the money to purchase the gifts from a local retail store to support our community, and then have them gift-wrapped and tagged for delivery to Grace House.
You can make your contribution by mailing a check to the office, indicating that the donation is for Grace House, texting "GIVE" to (774) 298-0388, or using our website. We would appreciate receiving your contributions any time before December 13th. This date will give us time to shop, wrap, prepare name tags for the gifts, and enough time to deliver them for Christmas.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We pray for abundant blessings to all during our health emergency, for care and concerns for ALL God’s people.
St. John’s Growing Edge Book Group will be starting a new book on December 10, 2020.
The selection is Karen Armstrong’s “Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life” The book is available in hardcover, paperback, audiobook, and on Kindle. Used copies of the book can be found at Abebooks.comas well.
Financial assistance can be provided to anyone needing help to purchase the book. Church membership is not a requirement. Any adult - from anywhere - is welcome to join!
The group meets via Zoom every Thursday from 4:00 - 5:15 pm. If you are not comfortable with Zoom, let us know and we will get you up to speed before the first meeting. Each week’s reading assignment is 20-25 pages on average.
If you are interested in participating, email Sue Kucharski, at SJCbookgroup@gmail.com to sign up or get further details.
Here’s a description of the book:
“One of the most original thinkers on the role of religion in the modern world--author of such acclaimed books as A History of God, Islam, and Buddha --now gives us an impassioned and practical book that can help us make the world a more compassionate place. Karen Armstrong believes that while compassion is intrinsic in all human beings, each of us needs to work diligently to cultivate and expand our capacity for compassion. Here, in this straightforward, thoughtful, and thought-provoking book, she sets out a program that can lead us toward a more compassionate life. The twelve steps Armstrong suggests begin with "Learn About Compassion" and close with "Love Your Enemies." In between, she takes up "compassion for yourself," mindfulness, suffering, sympathetic joy, the limits of our knowledge of others, and "concern for everybody." She suggests concrete ways of enhancing our compassion and putting it into action in our everyday lives, and provides, as well, a reading list to encourage us to "hear one another's narratives." Throughout, Armstrong makes clear that a compassionate life is not a matter of only heart or mind but a deliberate and often life-altering commingling of the two."
