Winter trail experiences
Mother nature is acting fickle again this year. In spite of the on again, off again winter weather there is still good snow in our higher elevations. Lake of the Woods area provides opportunities for all three winter disciplines, snowshoeing, xc skiing and backcountry skiing. Enclosed are two cross country ski trail maps based out of Fourmile Sno-Park and Pederson Sno-Park. Note, you’ll need to buy a Sno-Park permit at one of our local outdoor stores if you park there.
Brown Mountain is also popular for snowshoeing and backcountry skiing and is located just west of Lake of the Woods. The best access is the unnamed Sno-Park just past the westside road near Lake of the Woods. Enclosed is a map link to the Sno-Park. The climb starts around 5,000’ elevation and tops out at 7,344’. It takes between 1.5 to 2 hours to summit depending on snow conditions. Views of Mt McLoughlin are plentiful.

Board Election
Member votes were tallied and we are pleased to report all votes were affirmative for the proposed slate of board members. Forty-seven folks voted and elected the following board members: John Bellon, Jeremy Morris, Dennis Taugher, Drew Honzel, JoAnn Clifton and Grant Weidenbach. Thank you for your confidence in our board!

Spence Fundraiser
Once again folks really stepped up to support trail development at Spence this year! Our goal was to raise $14,000 from the community to match two large donations by KTA Board Member, Mark Goodman, and Zach’s Bikes. Through the second week of January we have exceeded our goal by 27% and raised $17,754! Combined with Mark and Zach’s donations we’ve raised $31,754 from the community. This is especially important as several grants never materized last year due to COVID and grant funding was down 35% from 2019. We truly appreciate everyone’s help.
