Member Craig Brodey riding through Ecuador on his way to raising £12,000 for Charity

Our President writes...

Dear fellow Rotarians and Friends.

We enjoyed a most interesting talk by our very own member Craig Brodey at our meeting of 8 December, 2002. Craig, and enthusiastic adventurer at heart, decided to participate in a Cancer Fund raising Bicycle Event which took place in Ecuador. The most challenging undertaking was a bicycle ride over 7 days, with a distance of 500 kilometres, from an elevation of 900m to 4000m in height over the Andes to the coast of Ecuador. Craig’s target was to raise £ 5,000 for the MacMillan Cancer Charity back home, but in typical fashion he raised of £ 12,000. Craig had not ridden a bike for a number of years prior to the challenge but trained vigorously in advance of the trip. Aside from losing half a stone and gaining a sore backside he enjoyed the challenge and shared with us a number of interesting anecdotes and visuals of his journey with his fellow riders. PP Roger Wescombe thanked Craig on behalf of the members for his presentation which was greatly enjoyed by everyone who attended.

GRAND FINALE TO OUR CHRISTMAS MEGA RAFFLE
As this years Lane Cove Rotary Fair, which is our major fund raising event was cancelled due to COVID, we had to think of another way of raising funds for the local charities we support. We organized a “Mega Raffle”, selling raffle tickets from early October to early December in a number of loactions in the local area. This was no mean feat, as we had to reach out to the local businesses to sponsor the prizes who were most supportive. Our Mega Raffle Draw took place on Saturday 12 December in the grandstand of the Lane Cove Aquatic Leisure Centre. Excellently MC’d by PP Stephen Miller who introduced Swans Legend Jude Bolton who officiated and drew the winning tickets from the barrel. Congratulations to all of the 58 winners and thanks to all of the sponsors and ticket buyers who helped make this year's fundraising event a great success.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY SATURDAY 12 DECEMBER 2020
Our annual Christmas Party took place at the Northbridge Golf Club. A “surprise” Santa appeared and after some hilarious banter handed out a gift to everyone, compliments of the club! Pre-dinner festive music was provided by the Golden Strings Duo, followed by an excellent 3 course meal and great fellowship. Thanks go to the member who did an impressive job playing Santa and above all to Robyn Sleet who spent many hours organizing the details of this most enjoyable evening.

SOCIAL FELLOWSHIP MEETING TUESDAY 15 DECEMBER, 2020

The club is indebted to treasurer Tania May and DGE Lindsay May OAM for hosting the last social get-together for members and partners in their private apartment. It was a most enjoyable occasion, brilliantly organized and catered for by hosts Tania and Lindsay. It was a delight to see the many faces, some who haven’t been able to make regular meeting. It was also an opportunity to meet again Rotary Peace Fellow Lingh Nong from Vietnam who is staying with the hosts who appeared to give a great deal of assistance with the catering.

Our next meeting will be in the New Year, Tuesday, 19 January, 2021.

With best wishes to all for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

and finally...

What does Santa suffer from if he gets stuck in a chimney?
Claustrophobia!

Why does Santa have three gardens?
So he can 'ho ho ho'!

Wife: "I'm beginning to regret getting you that blender for Christmas."
Husband sipping toast: "Why?"

How did Mary and Joseph know that Jesus was 8lb 2oz when he was born?
They had a weigh in a manger.

Did you know that Santa's not allowed to go down chimneys this year? It was declared unsafe by the Elf and Safety Commission.
