December Newsletter

Happy Holidays from the ADR family!  What a different and unexpected year 2020 has been.  With all the craziness, stress and uncertainty we have had throughout 2020 we are so grateful for our snuggly 4-pawed furry family members and the amazing group of people associated with Alberta Dachshund Rescue.  We wish you all the best in what is certainly going to be an unusual Christmas.  Remember to give your dachshunds a hug from us.

We have some exciting surprises this month, so read on and, as always, if you have any suggestions for the newsletter please email adrescuenews@gmail.com

News and Upcoming Events

Puppies!!
It sure has been an exciting month for us at ADR.  Both Greta and Nellie had their puppies!  This is such an exciting experience for us as we don't normally deal with puppies.

On November 21st little Greta gave us a beautiful little treasure. Weighing in at just under 5 oz we announce the arrival of ADR's Evi, German for "life.".

On December 3 sweet Nellie had two sweet little puppies - on boy weighing 8 oz and a little girl who weighed 6 oz.  Please join us in welcoming Brian and BB.

We are not taking applications for Nellie, Greta or any puppies at this time.  Stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates and pictures.

ADR Christmas Party
We hope you are all having a good start to your holiday season, and with Santa coming next week, ADR wants to invite you to a virtual online Christmas party to share some dachshund joy.
We encourage you to come share stories about your dog and say hi to like minded people, or even just scope out some cute dogs. If you have adopted from us, we would absolutely LOVE to see your adopted dogs and hear about how they are doing now.
We will have a Christmas costume party for the dogs, and have a great prize planned out for a few of the winners! Dress them up and let's see how cute they are!
Join us Saturday the 19th of December at 7 pm mountain time! Follow the link below, provide the passcode, or wait to be admitted to the fun. See you all there.

Updates on our Current Dogs

Greta is busy looking after Evi and doing an amazing job.  When her mom duties are done, she will be looking for a special home.  Due to her background she is very shy, may never be able to walk on a leash and will need another dog in the home to give her guidance on being a family pet.  She will also need a fenced yard where she can play.
Like Greta, Nellie is busy being a fabulous mom to Brian and BB.  Like Nellie, she will also need a special home with the same requirements.  She is easily frightened and also may never be able to walk on a leash.  She is also looking for a home with a doggie to give her guidance on being a family pet and a fenced yard where she can play.
Sparky came into our care a little while ago. This boy is paralyzed and getting some special care and a new spanking set of wheels to enjoy life.  He is super cute and sparky just like his name suggests, and he will be available shortly. He requires much more care than the average bear, with his disability and such, and will need a very niche home to go to.
Introducing Charlie. A young pic and a current picture. This sweet boy we highly doubt will make it past the heart of his foster home, so give him some love online, and let him know he is perfectly perfect as it gets!
This little fella is named Winston joined us from Kelowna and has been busy stealing hearts.  He is also likely going to stay with his foster so send some loving his way as well.
Happy Tails and Fond Remembrances

Fond Rememberances
Seven years ago Sadie was adopted to her loving forever family.  Last month she crossed the rainbow bridge.  Please send some positive thoughts for Sadie's family going through a rough time. Our ADR family sticks together.

Flower was adopted from ADR in 2014 at the age of 5. She brought joy to her family and passed away a month after her doxie big brother did. We all send our loving thoughts to her family for their losses this past month.  Here is a picture of Flower as well as one with her brother.

Feature Volunteers
Doug and Deb Bardick

Year after year,  these two show up when needed to do some long hauls.  Guaranteed they have put over a thousand kilometers on this year alone transporting and picking up dogs for us.  Living in Salmon Arm they are also a remote team never fails us.  They are always able and willing to help us out.

FUN FACT:
Waldi was the first official mascot in the history of the Olympic Summer Games. He is a dachshund, a very popular animal in Bavaria, famed for its endurance, tenacity and agility.
Tom's Thoughts, Tips and Tricks..
With another year coming to a close, and more success stories made, the team at ADR want to thank everyone again for all the support.  With an obviously hard year, people stepped up, did more fundraising, and we were able to power through and provide the best care we could to our dogs not worrying about paying for their bills. I'd like to add that these people who stepped up, did so on their own time and completely on their own.  It is clear to us that our family vibe has grown our family and made us stronger than ever.  We had a lot of odd issues with the dogs, and our team and helpers were able to get through them all.  From Blue with his MMM, and Tasha and her FCE causing all 4 legs to be paralyzed, everyone was able to chip in with info and help, and they all came through their hardships.  We truly are blessed to have everyone involved, helping and supporting our cause.  It takes a village they say, and that village is clearly here with us all!

From all of us at ADR, we want to thank everyone more than you all know for making it possible to do what we do.  We think we do pretty good at it, and we wouldn't be able to do it without you all.  We wish all of you involved, in any way, a very special holiday season, filled with joy, gratitude and safety.  We hope you share doxie kisses and snuggle with your hounds, and that we get through this year safely and into a better 2021.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
