Travel overseas this winter without your passport!

Join six of the world’s leading architecture organizations in Copenhagen, Chicago, Boston, Prague, New York, and Los Angeles as they team up to bring you a virtual glimpse into surprising historic and contemporary icons. Tour a different city each Saturday (January 23 - February 27) and meet some of the architectural experts and local guides who know their cities best.

This inaugural six-part series is sponsored by the Association of Architecture Organizations (AAO), in collaboration with program partners the Danish Architecture Center, Chicago Architecture Center, Boston By Foot, CAMP (Prague), AIA New York/Center for Architecture, and the Los Angeles Conservancy. (If this pilot proves successful, we’d be delighted to take up interested members who might wish to participate in a follow-up series.)

PS: This makes a great gift!

Thanks for making our first virtual conference a success!

Thank you to all the speakers and attendees for making the 2020 Design Matters Conference a success. It was wonderful to chat with everyone in the virtual ballroom, share ideas in the breakout sessions, and take inspiration from the presentations.

This was our largest gathering to date, drawing 250 registrants from dozens of US States and 9 countries. Under difficult circumstances, we came together to inspire one another and to share insights.

Congratulations to one of our conference keynotes, Pascale Sablan, for receiving the 2021 AIA Whitney M. Young Jr. Award. View Pascale's Design Matters Conference talk, in which she advances several pragmatic opportunities and effective strategies for architecture organizations to address erasure and bolster diverse representation in the architecture field.

Help Shape AAO's 2021 Programming

AAO is issuing a call for interested members to join one of several new committees and initiatives. We will, of course, continue to convene our long-standing affinity groups by discipline (CEO Network, Design Educators Network, Exhibitions Network, Fundraisers Network, Tours Network), but we are now also putting together a Program Committee to steer a year-round schedule of public discussions and events.

Please see this Google form for more details and to express your interest—whether you are early in your career or a leading voice in our field, there are several opportunities to get involved. All efforts will include members at large as well as current representatives of the AAO Board of Directors.

And, if you’re not a member yet, please consider joining AAO.

In Remembrance of Greg Brown

It is with deep sadness that we report Greg Brown, longtime program director at the Dallas Center for Architecture (now AD EX) and former AAO Board Member, passed away on December 14. His fun-loving and generous spirit will be deeply missed in the AAO community.

Please send e-news submissions or comments to aao@architecture.org.
