ISA ONLINE NATIONAL COMPETITION

On December 5th and 6th, skaters took to the ice to compete in the ISA Online National Competition at Macquarie Ice Rink. The skaters entered the competition like they would any other, uploading their music and PPC, but instead of skating for officials, NSWISA videoed the performances to be viewed and judged by ISA appointed panels along with the submissions from other states.
It was lovely to see the skaters showing off their skills and many officials were on hand just to enjoy the performances.
Congratulations to Team NSW, it was wonderful to finish such a year on such a positive note. The results of the competition will be published as soon as they are available and shared on our social media channels.

NSWISA 2021 CALENDAR
The 2021 Calendar has been published and is available on our website. We are looking forward to an uninterrupted schedule of events next year, with our first event being our Training & Development Day at Liverpool on 21st February. Look out for more details about the day in the new year.

2020 AUSSIE SKATE CLUB POINT SCORE CHAMPIONS
In a reduced season with 3 Aussie Skate Competitions, LCCISC finished the season with 141 points, ahead of PVFSC with 93.
The Aussie Skate Club Point Score is awarded to the Club that accrues the most points throughout the year. Points are awarded to each Club based on participation and on results. Congratulations to the skaters and coaches at LCCISC, and thank you to all Clubs for your support of the program.
CHANGES TO AUSSIE SKATE IN 2021
ISA have been busy developing some new initiatives for Aussie Skate in 2021 including:
  • A curriculum review in conjunction with APSA (Australian Professional Skaters Association)
  • The development of an app for the Program. This will cover the curriculum with descriptions and videos of the elements. The App will be part of all new and renewed memberships and will be available for download for others for $5
  • A new Aussie Skate Judging system to be introduced for all competitions
  • For skaters competing in divisions from Tiny Tots 2 to Intermediate 2 there will be new program patterns which will be available on the App and the Aussie Skate page on the ISA website.
For information on Aussie Skate and on the updates for 2021, visit the Aussie Skate page on ISA website.
MOVING FROM AUSSIE SKATE TO THE IJS DIVISIONS
For some of our experienced Aussie Skaters, you may be thinking what next? Aussie Skate competitions start at Tiny Tots and continue to Freeskate 4. Once you have developed a liking for competitions, your next step will be to compete in the IJS (ISU Judging System) divisions.
The first Division is Preliminary and in order to compete in  Preliminary Events, you must have passed your Preliminary Pattern and Preliminary Technical Tests.
Speak to your coach about preparing for the transition into IJS Divisions. Tests are conducted by NSWISA and bookings must be made via the NSWISA website. Booking the test should be done with the approval of your coach, so that your coach can properly prepare you for your test. NSWISA has provided some information in the "Test Guidelines for Skaters" document that will assist you in understanding what to expect and what is expected of you when preparing for and attending your test.
CHILD SAFE STANDARDS
The Office of the Children's Guardian has been working in 2020 to develop Child Safe Standards. These Standards provide a framework for making organisations safer for children and have been accepted by the NSW Government. The Standards provide tangible guidance for organisations to create cultures, adopt strategies and act to put the interests of children first, to keep them safe from harm.
In 2021, NSWISA will be working through these standards with our Clubs to ensure that our sport not only complies with the standards, but also embeds child safety in the attitudes, behaviours and practices in our sport.

We thank our Clubs and volunteers in working together to ensure that we are providing a safe environment for our skaters and our families.
More information on the Child Safe Standards can be found here.
ICE SKATING REFLECTIONS
As many of our skaters look towards 2021 and start the process of goal-setting, guests at the LCCISC presentation night were treated to the reflections of Pietro Sanfilippo. Making the decision to take a break from the sport, Pietro articulately summed up his experience on the ice in the form of slam poetry.
Presentation guests were enthralled by Pietro's prose, as all could relate to the ideas conveyed and the sincerity with which Pietro spoke. Congratulations Pietro, we hope to see you back at the rink when you are ready.
Pietro's Slam Poetry "Skating" can be found here.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A WONDERFUL 2021
We would like to extend our wishes to all our NSW Ice Skating Families and to all the interstate Ice Skating Families for a safe and happy Christmas. Enjoy the time to relax and we look forward to seeing you on the ice, not only virtually, in 2021.
Thank you to all our Clubs, volunteers and families who have made the best out of what has been a very disruptive year. We look forward to working with you in 2021.
