è stato senza dubbio un anno difficile, che ci ha messo tutti a dura prova.
1. Poco dopo lo scoppio della pandemia, Pro Bono Italia – la prima associazione di avvocati per la promozione di una cultura pro bono nel nostro Paese – ha ideato e lanciato, insieme alla sede milanese dello Studio legale Herbert Smith Freehills e la clearinghouse di CILD (Coalizione Italiana Libertà e Diritti Civili), il Legal Pro Bono Solidarity Resource Center, un “paniere legale sospeso” di memoranda legali e strumenti messi a disposizione di associazioni, ONG, ETS e singoli individui al fine di chiarire la portata della normativa emergenziale. Ad oggi, il Resource Center conta circa 30 contributi su varie aree del diritto, da 13 diversi autori (avvocati, Studi legali, e notai), di oltre 10 regioni e 20 città d'Italia. La pagina italiana è stata consultata oltre 500 volte, mentre la versione inglese oltre 200 volte, per tempi medi di consultazione di circa 4 minuti.
2. Non appena possibile, abbiamo ripreso le nostre Italian Pro Bono Roundtable (la 34ma, tenutasi il 17 giugno 2020 presso la sede romana dello Studio legale Gianni & Origoni, e la 35ma, tenutasi il 30 settembre 2020 presso la sede milanese dello Studio legale Herbert Smith Freehills, entrambe in streaming).
3. Infine, mercoledì 25 novembre 2020, abbiamo svolto, sempre in streaming, la terza edizione dell’Italy Pro Bono Day (qui i materiali ed i video della giornata). Organizzato da Pro Bono Italia, Hogan Lovells, Legance - Avvocati Associati, Orrick, CILD, CSVnet, PILnet, European Pro Bono Alliance, European Pro Bono Initiative e TrustLaw nell’ambito della seconda edizione dell’European Pro Bono Week (con eventi in oltre 15 capitali europee), l’evento ha visto la partecipazione di 164 persone (in rappresentanza di 36 studi legali, 25 associazioni, 3 Università e cliniche legali, e 5 aziende). Pur mancandoci gli incontri di persona, l'evento on-line ci ha permesso di avvicinare a Pro Bono Italia tante persone nuove, da diverse città italiane. Ne siamo felici. È stata l’occasione per tracciare un bilancio dell'attività svolta nel 2020, con l'ingresso di 6 nuovi associati (lo Studio legale Gianni & Origoni, l’avv. Agata Cavallo, l’avv. Alessandra Terzini, l’avv. Nino Longobardi, l’avv. Pier Giuseppe Tammaro e l’avv. Mattia Gasparin), 16 nuove ONG, e la presa in carico di 33 nuove richieste di assistenza pro bono (di cui 22 di ONG ed 11 di singoli individui).
È emerso forte anche il bisogno di una maggiore integrazione tra le varie anime della nostra rete (avvocati, enti no profit, cliniche legali, aziende). È questa la nostra priorità, già da oggi. Ci stiamo lavorando, facendo leva sugli strumenti offerti dalla tecnologia.
Ringraziamo di cuore quanti di Voi – sempre di più – ci sostengono con il proprio volontariato professionale (siano essi avvocati, rappresentanti della società civile organizzata, accademici o legali d’azienda). Siamo felici di lavorare con Voi.

It has undoubtedly been a difficult year, which has put us all to the test.
1. Shortly after the outbreak of the pandemic, Pro Bono Italia – the first association of lawyers for the promotion of a pro bono culture in our country – conceived and launched, together with the Milan office of the law firm Herbert Smith Freehills and the clearinghouse of CILD (Coalizione Italiana Libertà e Diritti civili), the Legal Pro Bono Solidarity Resource Center, a “suspended legal basket” of legal memoranda and tools made available to associations, NGOs, Third Sector Entities and individuals in order to provide clarifications and guidance as to the emergency legislation. To date, the Resource Center has about 30 contributions on various areas of law, from 13 different authors (lawyers, law firms, and public notaries), from over 10 regions and 20 cities throughout Italy. The Italian page has been consulted over 500 times, while the English version has been consulted over 200 times, for an average consultation time of about 4 minutes.
2. As soon as possible, we resumed our Italian Pro Bono Roundtables (the 34th, held on 17 June 2020 at the Rome office of the law firm Gianni & Origoni, and the 35th, held on 30 September 2020 at the Milan office of the law firm Herbert Smith Freehills, both in streaming).
3. Finally, on Wednesday, 25 November 2020, took place in streaming the third edition of the Italy Pro Bono Day (here are the materials and videos of the day). Organized by Pro Bono Italia, Hogan Lovells, Legance - Avvocati Associati, Orrick, CILD, CSVnet, PILnet, European Pro Bono Alliance, European Pro Bono Initiative and TrustLaw as part of the second edition of the European Pro Bono Week (with events in over 15 European capitals), the event was attended by 164 people (representing 36 law firms, 25 associations, 3 Universities and legal clinics, and 5 companies). We were pleased to note that participation was broad and diverse. Although we missed the in-person meeting, the online event allowed us to bring many new people from different Italian cities closer to Pro Bono Italia. We are happy about this. It was an opportunity to take stock of the 2020 activities, which saw the joining to Pro Bono Italia of 6 new members (the law firm Gianni & Origoni, Ms. Agata Cavallo, Ms. Alessandra Terzini, Mr. Nino Longobardi, Mr. Pier Giuseppe Tammaro, and Mr. Mattia Gasparin), 16 new NGOs, and the undertaking of 33 new requests for pro bono assistance (of which 22 from NGOs and 11 from individuals).
There was also a strong need for greater integration between the various parts of our network (lawyers, non-profit organizations, legal clinics, companies). This is our priority, starting today. We are working on it, leveraging the tools offered by technology.
We would like to thank those of you who - more and more - support us with your professional volunteering (whether lawyers, representatives of the organised civil society, academics or in-house counsels). We are happy to work with you.
